I received a call from a number identified as being from Greensboro, Alabama. When I tried ringing it back, there was a woman delivering a rather shoddy imitation of a 'disconnected' message. Then a chap came on the line offering to reduce my credit card interest to a tantalising 6.9%. I explained that I don’t even possess any credit cards, so I couldn’t fathom why they were contacting me, and he promptly ended the call! Quite the bizarre experience, I must say!

No respectable credit card company would ever request your entire card number via phone like that!

It's the same old tale, isn't it? I got a call about a so-called reduction in my credit card interest rate by 0.6%. They said to press one for an agent. But really, who was I even conversing with? Nah, I decided to cut the call short.

They didn’t specify which card they were referring to or provide any details, and then asked me to press one. At that point, I decided to end the conversation. The reason for my quick exit was that I’d come across reports highlighting similar telephone scams in the news, where individuals who pressed one ended up compromising their personal information.

I affirmed, and then he queried whether my total credit card debt exceeded £4,000. I replied in the negative, and without any hesitation, he hung up straight away. Quite the experience, that one!
