I’m based in Ontario, Canada and last night around 7:55pm I got a text from a different number (312) 275-2819, which seemed linked to the (201) number mentioned here. The message said:

Hi Mum, I’m texting from a mate’s phone cause I smashed mine and theirs is nearly out of battery, can you WhatsApp me on my new number +1 (249) 702-2983 Thanks x

I replied to both numbers telling them whoever’s trying to reach their mum has the wrong person. Never heard back after that. Hope this info helps someone out.

I'm from Ontario, Canada and yesterday at 7:55pm I got a text from a number starting with (312) 275-2819 linked to the number (201) mentioned here. The message said something like: "Hi Mum, I’m texting from a mate’s phone because I smashed mine and their battery’s nearly dead. Can you WhatsApp me on my new number +1 (249) 702-2983 please x". I replied to both numbers letting them know whoever’s trying to reach their mum’s got the wrong person. Didn’t hear back at all. Honestly, I was a bit iffy about the whole thing, especially since I gave them a heads-up and that was the end of it. Fingers crossed it was genuine and Mum was informed properly. No one wants unnecessary worry. Hope this helps anyone else who gets a message like this.
