I got two texts and three emails all about the same thing. They said something like, “Dear ..., St.George sent you a message on 21/10/2021 asking for more info. You’ve got 7 days to get back to them. Ref 112611. For details log into your online banking, go into a branch, or call 1300 720 314 (option 4) or +61 2 9155 7570 (option 4) if you’re overseas. Don’t reply via SMS.” It all looked really official, with the sender showing up as “st.george”. Thing is, I don’t even have an account with St.George. The email and text looked so convincing, it was a bit unsettling. Just a heads up to everyone, watch out for stuff like this!

Just a heads up, I’ve been getting a load of texts, emails and even a letter that claimed to be from Westpac over the last few months. They ask for all sorts of personal details and say my account will be frozen if I don’t comply. It’s definitely a scam. Real banks don’t ask for that kind of info once your account is set up. Stay safe!

Received this text and figured I’d share it here. Just so ya know, my name’s definitely not Franklin, and I don't have an account with Westpac. The message says: “Dear FRANKLIN, This is a reminder from the Westpac Group about a letter with Reference 17416110052. You’ve got 7 days to submit the info. Pop into your branch or ring 1300720314 (Option 4) or +61288616400 (Option 4) if you’re overseas. Please don’t reply to this SMS.” Feels a bit dodgy to me!

Got a couple of texts mentioning BankSA references. I gave this number a buzz but it just kept ringing without anyone picking up. Then I called St George Bank to check, but they said they haven’t sent me any letter or anything like that.

Got a letter supposedly from Westpac with that number on it, asking for personal info and warning my account would be locked in 30 days if I didn’t reply. The letter said only 2 weeks left from when it was sent. It seemed fishy since the bank already holds all my details... So I rang Westpac on their official number, and they told me they never sent such a letter. Definitely a scam.
