I haven't returned the call from Milton Graham yet, but I did some digging and discovered that the number is linked to Centrelink's debt collection efforts. I'm not sure if it's legitimate or just a fraud attempt. Regardless, I'm quite puzzled about how they managed to obtain my mobile number in the first place. I wouldn't put my trust in it at all. I attempted to notify Centrelink about this, but ultimately got so fed up with the process that I decided to let it go.

I received a similar text message and decided to ring 1300398546. It turns out it is indeed associated with D&B. When I spoke to a woman there, she informed me they had accessed my details through myGov. This prompted me to log into my Centrelink account, where I discovered a PDF correspondence regarding an 'overpayment' linked to childcare expenses. It indicated that I needed to repay some funds, which I accepted as reasonable, so I settled it via BPay (or through online channels or Auspost). From my experience, the message strikes me as legitimate, so I'd recommend checking your myGov account first. Only then should you make your decision regarding payment. Be sure to pay exclusively through the method specified on the bill, not through any alternative means. I trust this information will be helpful to others.

I sent a reply indicating that I’m unfamiliar with D&B and haven’t heard back from them since.

Which legitimate and trustworthy organisation sends text messages for debt collection? In my experience, it's typically the case that I receive letters, like demands from solicitors or correspondence from the office of state revenue. What a total con!

I’ve had a right dodgy experience with this so-called Dun & Bradstreet. A bloke claiming to work for them was after my credit card info, saying I owed money from yonks ago to Centrelink. He insisted there was still an outstanding balance and that D&B had supposedly acquired the debt. First, they shot me a text. Luckily, I nipped over to my bank at NAB in Double Bay, and the teller straight up told me it was all nonsense. Just goes to show, you’ve got to stay sharp and not fall for these scams!
