This is a total con. If you ring it back, they'll charge you a one-time £6 connection fee for the 0902 number and then £3.60 a minute on top.

What freaked me out a bit was that it popped up after a WhatsApp text, and since I use WhatsApp Web, it looked genuine. I probably searched too quick before, didn’t catch it. I’ve checked my phone bill and it looks like I haven’t been charged, but I’ve blocked the number just in case. I got in touch with the actual WhatsApp support through their email and help centre, and they said: "Hi, thanks for getting in touch. The message you mentioned is a fake sent by someone not connected to WhatsApp and wasn't sent by us. Please ignore any such messages and don’t pass them on to your mates."

Got a message from this number at 8:56pm on Friday the 13th April 2018 saying I'd asked to move my phone number to a different device and that it would happen within 24 hours. It also told me to ring 0902 394 1983 if I hadn’t requested it. I’ve had other texts from this number pretending to be from WhatsApp official too. I’m not sure if any of these messages were legit or just scams. I’d really recommend not calling that number - it’s a premium rate, costs money and could end up giving away your private info.
