We've had the same experience. This number rang us once and then vanished. I'm with Orange, by the by. Blimey, if whoever they are is pocketing a few pennies every time someone tries to return the call, they'll be laughing all the way to the bank. And the maddening part? They're technically playing by the rules! Honestly, I think I might have chosen the wrong career path.

Just received a call at 11:55 AM, but the line went dead after hanging up. Honestly, I couldn’t be bothered to ring them back; I’ve grown quite accustomed to just typing unknown numbers into Google! It all feels rather dodgy to me, to be honest!

Like many, I used to receive phone calls that were quite significant, but now it seems there's hardly a peep.

I encountered a similar situation earlier today (6th August 2008) around 1.30 PM, receiving a call from the exact same number on O2. This was clearly a scam. I've noticed that these dodgy calls usually come from 090 numbers, but now they’ve moved on to 087 numbers, which cost a whopping 35p a minute. It’s quite clear these individuals are profiting from these calls. There's definitely a need for action against them, but let’s not forget that the telecom companies are also pocketing money from this racket. I suggest you contact your provider to lodge a complaint. If you ever find yourself with no free number to reach them, try searching "saynoto0870.com" for alternatives.

We received a missed call from this number as well (09:30 on 06/08/08). I decided to give them a ring back, but it immediately went to voicemail. The tone of the voicemail was quite different from what I typically expect from mobile service providers. We’ve just had a similar experience with O2. A call came through, and then the line went dead. We’re not inclined to ring them back. We regularly use search engines to dig up information on those 087x, 084x, and 070x numbers to try and identify the callers. If we can't find a local number, we simply never bother calling them back.

A short while ago, we received a missed call which we didn’t bother returning, as it's our policy not to call back numbers we don’t recognise. However, it’s rather peculiar that several of us received this call at the same moment. It seems likely that these callers only attempted to reach us once, especially considering we had just sent out a text about five minutes prior. Quite the coincidence, wouldn't you say?
