12 yearsI recently received a call from a number starting with 0871556**** and, unsurprisingly, they hung up without a word. It turns out that these numbers belong to Cheers International. They charge 10 pence per minute, but the cost skyrockets when dialling from a mobile. It appears that they engage in a revenue-sharing scheme, with the network provider claiming a significant portion of the call fees before handing over the rest to Cheers. It’s likely the reason why both the networks and regulators seem to turn a blind eye to this dodgy practice. Cheers is already on the radar of the regulators for their questionable tactics.
