I received a call from this number earlier today. I picked it up, but instead of a voice, all I got was a persistent dialling sound, so I hung up. My other half mentioned it sounded like some sort of sales pitch. Regardless, we certainly didn’t ring them, so it’s a bit bold for them to have a setup that pretends we’re the ones making the call! Cheeky lot, honestly!

I can assure you, this is definitely not a scam. We discovered this number on the reverse side of our bill, and after calling a few days back for a new credit card from Nationwide's customer services, everything went swimmingly. The only catch was that the call charged us 24 pence for every quarter of an hour.

We reached out directly to Nationwide and they confirmed that this number isn’t associated with them, nor has anyone from their team tried to contact us. Just to reiterate, THIS number is a scam! While I was at home, a call came through from a certain number. Since I typically screen my calls, I allowed it to be directed to my answering machine. I received a message from a mobile number (07860-035280) claiming to be from my bank, Nationwide. They asked me to call the number 0845 7998899 in order to verify a transaction on my card. They instructed me to reply with "y" to the text if I couldn't call or to call the 0845 number. These individuals are scammers and fraudulent criminals. I strongly advise against calling this number or attempting to do so. The cost of the call is exorbitant, and they will also try to keep you on the line to obtain your bank details. Delete the text immediately or contact both the police and your bank.

When you give them a call, they request for your card number, which is somewhat usual as other companies do the same. However, they went a step further and asked for the 3-digit code on the back of your card. This immediately raised suspicions for me. I did not provide that information. They claimed to be Nationwide but once again, failed to explain why they were contacting me. I've saved their number as "Scammers" in my phone to avoid any future calls from them.
