I got a text telling me to ring HSBC on a certain number. When I called, they asked for my name, sort code and account number as usual. Then they said my online banking password was locked and that if I gave them my username, current password and the number from my HSBC key fob, they’d be able to reset it for me. That’s when I got suspicious and refused. They kept pressing a bit but wouldn’t budge, then offered to put me through to Customer Services. The call just cut off after that. I contacted HSBC myself and they confirmed my account wasn’t locked, I’m not signed up for SMS alerts, and they never ask for your full password on the phone - just certain digits. Pretty obvious this was a scam attempt.

Hey everyone, Yesterday, I received a call that claimed to be from HSBC, then shortly after, I got a text from 08456080759 telling me to ring them back. I know HSBC offers text alerts, but I'm not signed up for any. They also phoned me from 0800 587 7819, which I reckon was connected to the same group. I've already informed my bank about it. Cheers.
