It's utterly absurd! You dial that number, and after a mere seconds of ringing, you get this nonsense message saying, "Regrettably, I’m unable to take your call due to a lack of service." Honestly, how on earth are you supposed to have a conversation with anyone?

We’re in complete agreement with the Geordie - it’s absolutely ludicrous!

I picked up the phone and dialled in, thinking I’d sort things out swiftly. Instead, I found myself languishing on hold for what felt like an eternity-twenty minutes at the very least! Each passing minute made the cost of my call climb higher. Finally, when I managed to get through, all I got was the same old line: "I’ll send an email to the relevant department, and they’ll ring you back in a few hours." What a farce!

What a farcical situation! I called this number, only to be left hanging on the line for a few moments and then slapped with a charge. The moment the call connected, I was met with the message, "Apologies, but we can’t take your call as no one is available." How on earth is one meant to actually have a conversation with anyone? It’s utterly baffling!

I discovered that the number I dialled was the general enquiries line for Jobcentre Plus claimants. When I tried the standard number, 0114 2590000, I was met with resistance from the staff, as they insisted I needed to call the other number. This led to an absurd wait time of nearly 20 minutes at a rate of 5 pence a minute! It’s frustrating because numerous people have phone plans that cover standard numbers at no cost, yet these calls to 0845 numbers incur charges. Quite the racket if you ask me!

I discovered that this was the main enquiries number for Jobcentre Plus claimants. If you try ringing the usual number, 0114 2590, they won't transfer you to the correct department. Instead, they insist you call the number provided above, leaving you on hold for ages - sometimes even twenty minutes at 5p a minute! It’s worth mentioning that many individuals have phone plans that cover standard numbers for free, but these 0845 numbers come with additional charges, which is rather frustrating.
