I recently received a call from 08454347568 claiming to be a 'service call' from Barclaycard, asking me for my year of birth. I told them it wasn’t something I could share over the phone. They promptly cut the line! Quite dodgy if you ask me!

This month, I've noticed we've missed two calls from this number on our mobile.

When she firmly declined to share anything, he had the gall to say he’d be out of work if everyone reacted like that! It's absolutely infuriating how these nuisance callers persist. We've reported the incident to Barclaycard; they noted it down and suggested we keep a vigilant eye on our account. Just a word of caution to others out there: be alert and don’t trust anyone!

That said, it’s still a bit of a con, as the call came from a department that evidently had no access to any of my actual account details-just a name and a phone number, thus fishing for information for their own ends. I've now asked to be removed from all telemarketing lists associated with Barclaycard. Enough is enough!

Who on earth was H? This feels like a classic case of someone trying to fish for your card information. Definitely a dodgy outfit trying to pull a fast one!

He requested my date of birth, but I refused to provide it as he couldn’t verify his identity. Undeterred, he proceeded to ask if I had activated my account and used my new Barclaycard, which I had, and if I had destroyed my Egg card. I noted that if he truly represented Barclaycard, he should have access to that information himself. He claimed he didn’t have that capability. Feeling quite uneasy about the whole encounter, I decided to ring Barclaycard directly on 0844 811 9111. A woman with a strong Indian accent answered and assured me that the call was indeed legitimate, coming from their marketing division-though I couldn’t help but wonder if that was the reason he lacked some of the necessary security credentials. I requested to have my name removed from their telemarketing list, something I believed I had done when I signed up online. Strangely, she didn’t seem to think it was inappropriate to cold-call customers and seek personal details. I’ve made up my mind to acquire a different credit card; I was quite fond of Egg before they were taken over-what a pity!
