At around half past five this evening, I received a call from Populus. I'm registered as ex-directory and signed up with the Telephone Preference Service, so I'm rather puzzled as to how they managed to obtain my number. I'm not interested in these types of calls at all, so I simply hung up. The number that rang me was 0845 3130337.

This past Friday around 7.30pm, my grandad received a rather dodgy call from the number 0845 3130337, inquiring about his bank account details! I received a call from a company named Populus claiming they were gathering market research and asserted that my number had been chosen "at random." It’s frustrating to know that the Telephone Preference Service can only block sales calls, not these pesky research solicitations. Honestly, I can’t fathom why anyone bothers to engage with these callers or answer their so-called questions. If everyone simply told them to do one without engaging, perhaps they would soon tire of the whole charade and leave us in peace, rather than intruding on our daily lives with these relentless phone calls.

A woman was chuckling as she glanced over at you or any of your family members who might be listed in that professional directory, only to stop short when it came to carrying on with a survey for Transport for London. Since she had connections to the advertising industry, she chose not to proceed further.

This particular number has been constantly harassing me, ringing me up to five or six times a day! I haven’t a clue how they managed to get hold of my number. I picked up the phone once, and this chap went on about how ‘you think you’ve got it tough, mate, I’ve been stuck on a train for 18 hours.’ Ever since that peculiar conversation, I’ve been too anxious to pick up again, fearing I might end up with some kind of ridiculous charge.

Got a call around 5 in the evening on Sunday, some person claiming to be from Populus asking if I wanted to take part in a survey. Told them I wasn’t bothered and just ended the call. Should've probably said more though, it’s really up to the higher ups to listen to what people think, not the callers. Beware of these lot calling themselves "Populus", who say they're a "well-known" market research firm. I was told by one of their callers that they just use autodialers to ring random phone numbers to find people who answer. They definitely ought to be reported to OFCOM, the ICO, and the MRS.
