I've been receiving calls from this number daily for the last few days, but they never leave a message. I haven't returned the call since my number is registered with the Telephone Preference Service. I’m keen to find out who’s behind this.

This number, and others very similar, ring me nonstop. I looked up the 0845 286 XXXX series and they're all either scams or fake 'survey' calls. I’m signed up with the Telephone Preference Service but honestly, it feels pointless - should just be done away with given how much cold calling is still going on these days. Also, if you can, maybe raise a fuss to the BBC about their recent 'Call Centre' shows that make these scammers seem like they’re doing some kind of good deed - complete rubbish, if you ask me. I use Caller ID so I never pick up unknown numbers anyway. A few tips I’d give: 1. Create a secret ‘code’ only trusted contacts know, so you only answer if they say it. 2. Make sure you have Caller ID. 3. Get a call blocking device like ‘Call Blocker’ or ‘True Call’. 4. Or write to your MP and try to get them to push a law through Parliament banning these dodgy firms, whether they’re just unprofessional or full-on scammers.

At about 8:20pm, someone started babbling on about homeowners before just hanging up. When I tried ringing the number again, I got a voice message telling me to press a button to take my number off their list. I didn’t do it though, didn’t want to risk it being some kind of scam or charging me for calls if I pressed any key. I’m on the TPS, but it seems pointless with the amount of annoying junk calls I still get. Really frustrating.

I got a call from this number yesterday around 1:57 in the afternoon, but they didn’t leave any voicemail or message.

On the 2nd of September 2013, around lunchtime, I got a call from a man with a Scottish accent. He said something like "this is the bigamist, do you fancy a wee bit?" I'm a 74-year-old lady.
