I received a call today where the caller claimed that my Sony TV warranty had lapsed, offering to renew it for me. I indeed own a Sony TV, but they had my full name, address, and postcode, which was rather alarming. When I inquired about the model number of my television, they couldn't provide that detail, prompting me to think twice about their authenticity. It struck me as odd; if they truly were who they claimed, they’d surely have that nugget of information. I decided to hang up right then and there. To be honest, my warranty expired ages ago, and I wouldn’t entertain the idea of extending it in any case. What I find concerning is that they had knowledge of my ownership of a Sony TV, even though they lacked specifics about it. How on earth did they acquire that sort of information?
