Every month, this number shows up on my bill charging me three times, each time for about 22 seconds. I have no idea where these calls are coming from. I got in touch with my phone company, TalkTalk, but they said they’re unable to block this number. I can’t block it on my handset either since it looks like an outgoing call. It seems to be linked with Vodafone’s network. Does anyone know if there’s a way to stop these annoying charges?

Got a call from 08450568034, some bloke claiming to sort out your wifi. Didn’t sound right at all, just ended the call. Definitely seemed like a dodgy scam, probably another dodgy Indian caller trying his luck. Be warned!

My mother-in-law, who’s 90, got billed £17 because of a call that went on for nearly two hours. She just hit the emergency button on her necklace once to ask for help, so I can’t understand why they’re charging her that much. Anyone know why this happened?

Over the past year, I kept noticing calls to this number on my phone bill but I didn't remember making any of them. I’m 68 and saw loads of people talking about how this might affect older folks, which made me think. When I spoke to my landline provider, TalkTalk, about what seemed like a dodgy call, they asked me if I had some sort of alarm system at home. That’s when it clicked - I have an emergency pendant alarm that calls a centre to get help if I press the button, like an ambulance. They say you should test it every month. Since I’m just pushing a button and not dialling, I’d forgotten that it actually makes a call which shows up on the phone bill. Then I checked the sticker on the alarm’s base unit and saw that their contact number was almost the same as the one on my bill - just one digit different, ending in a 5 instead of a 4. I gave them a ring and they confirmed all the calls from my alarm base unit to the number 08450568034 over the past year. So the mystery was solved! One thing to mention is that sometimes the pendant can get triggered by accident, like when wearing it to bed, which happened to me once. But the phone bill charges for these false alarms or for use by people who might get confused are quite minor. I reckon it’d be a bad idea to stop an elderly relative from using their alarm too much - if they really need help and don’t have it on them, it defeats the whole purpose. Hopefully, sharing this will ease worries for others in the same boat.

My mum, who’s 90, has ended up with a dozen charges from this number and also 08450568035, with fees like 53p and 26p popping up. She’s got Call Guardian enabled, which picks up the call and tells them to buzz off, but she still gets billed since it counts as an answer. I’ve contacted the phone company to get details on how many calls there were, when they began, and the overall cost from both numbers. Once I have all that info, I’m planning to file a report with Action Fraud.

I get calls like this pretty much every day.

Someone’s been calling this number loads - my poor old aunt, who’s a bit forgetful and struggling with her memory, has dialled it 29 times over the past six weeks. The phone just says “service number” when she calls, and we have no clue who’s on the other end. Has anyone got any idea who this could be?

My 90 year old mum has been dealing with the same issue, getting calls at all sorts of times, but it looks like she might’ve triggered her Fall Alert by mistake. I rang the company’s main line from a landline and they told me that the monitors come from 0845 0568034. Sadly, since it’s the weekend, I won’t be able to sort anything until they’re back in the office - their hours are 08:30 to 17:00 Monday through Friday.

This number keeps ringing my elderly mum who suffers from dementia, but I haven't got a clue who's behind it.

I've been inundated with calls from this number lately, and it's really quite frustrating. Whenever I pick up, they just hang up without saying a word. To make matters worse, my phone bill that arrived today reveals that I've apparently been the one calling them, racking up a total charge of 19p. In just a week, it's added up to £3.56! What a nuisance!

As soon as we answered, there was complete silence on the other end.

Could someone shed light on whose number this might be? My dad has been trying to get in touch with it numerous times but hasn’t got a clue about the owner.
