I recently received a rather dubious call from a number that didn’t show up as identifiable, which I typically avoid altogether. It turns out it was a right nuisance-an outright SPAM operation trying to pry into my O2 account details and my current mobile plan. They were angling to hawk a second mobile phone on me. I must emphasise, these characters are definitely not affiliated with O2! Shortly after the call, I was treated to a message that read: "O2 Customer: Please call us regarding your mobile device. 0844 8887576." Be wary, my friends!

Looks like I've fallen into the clutches of some dodgy spam operation pretending to be O2. At first, the call came through as unknown, which I always ignore, but then I received a text claiming to be from them. It was pushing some sort of promotion for a second mobile phone, but let me tell you, these chancers aren't affiliated with O2 at all. Their number was 0844 87576, and it seemed rather dubious. Beware of these scams, folks!

Regarding the O2 site... While it won't set you back a penny to receive junk messages, simply replying could inadvertently sign you up for unwanted premium-rate SMS services that will start costing you. If you find yourself inundated with spam or suspect scams, you can report them by forwarding the message to 7726, which is only valid in the UK. O2 will look into your report and take appropriate steps to deal with such fraudulent activities.

I received a message saying to 'txt' 80010 if I wanted to opt out.

Best to ignore this entirely. The number 0844 8887576 is certainly not affiliated with O2's customer service. O2's fraud and security teams are looking into the matter, and these messages ought to stop immediately. OFCOM has also been notified about this situation.
