I’ve been attempting to ring my son’s mobile, but whenever I try, it just tells me to ring a different number. When I dial that one, there’s a message recorded saying 'test successful'. Even after that, I still can’t connect to my son’s phone. Is this some kind of call blocker or am I missing something?

I attempted to call the customer support of a well-known firm, but got hit with an automated message telling me to call 08446661098 instead. So, I rang up MediaTemple's support team, coz I had some issue with my web hosting. Instead of speaking to a person, I got this robotic voice saying I should ring 08446661098. I had a call from 01290765291 claiming to be TalkTalk, but the bloke on the other end had quite a thick accent, made it hard to understand him. Then he just hung up. So what happens is, you call a number and it tells you to phone another one as some kind of check. When you dial that second line, it plays a message like "test complete" or something similar. Tonight my mate tried to get through to me but ended up being put through to that number instead. She called it back and, just like someone else mentioned, she managed to get connected on her second try. I’m definitely going to contact my phone company about this to see what’s going on.

I picked up a £5 UK and International phonecard from the Post Office. When I tried to ring the USA for the first time, after putting in all the numbers including the US one, it kept asking me to enter my PIN even though I’d already done it multiple times. Then I kept hearing a message telling me to call this number 08446661098 on repeat. The call to the US never connected, but I still got charged for it! Eventually, I hung up and started the whole process again from scratch, and this time the call actually went through without any problems or prompts about that 0844 number.
