I got a call from this service called Local police RURAL CRIMES, it was a recorded message. Apparently, they send alerts to your landline about recent crimes nearby and advice on what to be careful about. Bit helpful if you want to keep an eye out.

When I picked up the phone, some bloke said he was from the DORSET ALERT TEAM. I thought you weren't supposed to get calls like that. So I just hung up straight away. Feels like it might be risky if it's one of those scams!!

Just a heads up from the Dorset BCP local council about dodgy doorstep scammers pretending to be helpers. These folks aren’t registered and try to sneak inside your home without permission. Real helpers always show ID, so don’t let anyone in if you’re not sure who they are. Stay safe!

Just got a call from Devon and Cornwall Police Crime Safety Partnership about a high-risk missing person nearby (seems they might be in danger themselves, not a threat to anyone else). It was an automated message but spoken by a real person, not a computer-generated voice. Sounded legit. As far as I understand, you only get these if you’ve registered on their list.

Had a call not long ago with a guy’s recorded voice telling me about a scam linked to Brexit. He told me not to give out any personal info and that if I had any worries, to ring 101. Sounded official, like it was the police. I just hung up after hearing it, didn’t say a word.

Got a call from the Devon & Cornwall Police crime partnership about a missing person. Saw a post here about people getting these calls super early, so I logged into the site and unsubscribed. Didn’t even know I’d signed up for it when I joined the partnership, honestly.

If you’re unsure whether it's legit, you can ring Neighbourhood Alert on 0118 9245517 (choose option 1) or, if you don’t mind waiting, dial 101 and speak to your local police. I got a call from this number at about 2:10 in the morning which really jolted me awake. I answered but didn’t put the phone to my ear, just waited for a bit and then hung up - my bedroom phone’s just an extension. After that, I went and took the main landline off the hook just in case. Now, seeing that it might be the local cops ringing me, I’m planning to call them back later to find out what’s going on. At 81 years old, I’m part of our Community Watch Scheme, but if it really was the police contacting me, I’ll be handing in my resignation from the group straight away. That’s all there is to it!
