Lately, I’ve been getting a bunch of spam calls. The most recent one was from some football group that honestly has zero relevance to us. When I asked them where they got our number from, they said it came from a company that uses this phone number. I don’t fancy calling that company back since it probably won’t be free. Does anyone know why they’d have our contact and how can we prevent our details from being shared like this? We’re definitely signed up to the TPS, and before now, calls like this were pretty rare. There's this firm, Pruit or sometimes called FRU, that still seem to be gathering private and ex-directory phone numbers. They then go and sell these numbers off as if they're legit, so other companies can ring up.

I say other companies, but most of the time it's just more spammers.

The Information Commissioner's Office did slap them with a fine some time ago, but it looks like they've come back out of hiding.

They actually sold my number to a legitimate company in Manchester called Atrium, who have since rung me up to apologise.

So yeah, if you keep getting spam calls, Pruit or FRU are definitely the ones to blame and complain about.
