Even though I’m registered with the TPS, I got a cold call from a company called Applied Digital Support, which they claimed is based in Croydon. The woman speaking, who had a noticeable Asian accent, immediately assumed I wanted insurance for Sky equipment I don’t actually have, saying my cover had expired. She gave me a support number and then transferred me to a man, also with an Asian accent, who handles payments. When I asked where they’d got my info from, he told me it came from Sky’s database. I told him I’m on the TPS and suspected the call was coming from India, plus I don’t own any Sky kit. He then pressed me hard about taking out the cover and demanded £110. I made it clear I never deal with unsolicited calls and that I’d never insure stuff I don’t possess. Eventually, he said he’d take my details off their list. I reckon this insurance they’re pushing is probably useless and think it could easily trick anyone with Sky into paying up under pressure. - caller: Applied Digital Support

Got a call from this number saying my sky maintenance plan had expired and they needed my card info to sort it for £107. Instantly knew it was dodgy, so I pretended to be interested and chatted with a guy called Edward who had an Indian accent for about 15 minutes. He asked me for a password, card number, expiry date, all that. I gave him made-up info and then told him I was onto his scam right away. - caller: 08443443003

Got a call from someone calling himself "Charles", sounded like he had an Asian accent. When I asked for his proper name, he insisted that was it. I mean, do they think I’m daft or something? He tried to convince me to pay £90 instead of £110 for Sky insurance, claiming it was a one-time deal. I told him I was already covered by another company, but he insisted that my insurance had expired. He then gave me a "new" phone number, 0844 3443003. He wanted me to create a password so they could verify me. No way am I doing that! These sorts of calls need to be stopped, seriously. - caller claimed to be from "Sky Insurance services."

Really horrible experience, someone rang my dad pretending to be Mark Wilson but the guy had a strange foreign accent. Thankfully my dad is pretty clever and managed to keep the caller confused. It’s shocking how some folks try to scam innocent people like that. This sort of thing has to be put an end to. What baffles me is how they even got hold of my dad’s number since it’s blocked. I recently encountered some dodgy characters purporting to offer comprehensive technical assistance for Sky.

I got a call just like Mr Sheard did, but these lot claimed it was about renewing my maintenance plan. When I told them I’d post a cheque, they sounded proper confused and gave me an address at 2 Lansdowne Road, Croydon, CR9 2ER. Bet they’re in for a long wait! - caller: Applied Digital Support

My dad got a call from someone claiming they’re from a company about Sky insurance. He wasn’t fooled one bit and told them he’d report it to the police. Definitely a scam, don’t trust them. The caller said they were from Apllied Digital Support or something like that.

I just got a call from someone saying they were from Sky, telling me that my insurance had expired and I could renew it for a one-time payment of £90, down from £118. The number they called from was 001632960099, but they said the proper customer service line was 0844 344 3003. They then asked me to provide a password to set up the renewal, so I told them straight up 'scam artist'. They even asked me to spell it out - what a load of rubbish. - caller: Sky Insurance

My elderly dad got a call from some company claiming he owed £90 for Sky Tv maintenance. The woman on the phone, who said her name was Zoe Taylor, got shirty when I asked her to send a letter to remind us about it. She said Sky Tv wouldn’t send reminders like that. It all just seemed fishy to me - the caller called themselves Applied Digital Support. Definitely feels dodgy.

I got a call from Applied Digital Support Ltd who were pushing me to buy insurance for my Sky TV. They asked for my bank details right over the phone, which I refused since I already have cover with a different provider. I later found out that this company isn’t FCA authorised, meaning it’s against the law for them to offer insurance. If you happen to get a call from these lot, watch out and make sure you report them to your local trading standards and the FCA on 0800 111 6768. Definitely a dodgy operation trying to scam people.
