7 yearsEven though I'm registered with the Telephone Preference Service, I received an unsolicited call from a company called Applied Digital Support, which they claim operates out of Croydon. The lady on the line, who had quite a pronounced Asian accent, seemed to think I was keen to insure some Sky equipment I don't even possess, which she claimed had no cover. After she provided a supposed support number, she transferred the call to a chap, also with an Asian accent. When I inquired about how they got my information, he said it was sourced from Sky’s database. I made it clear that I’m on the TPS and pointed out that I don’t own any Sky equipment whatsoever. Undeterred, he asked if I’d be interested in this so-called cover and pressed me for £110. I firmly told him that I don’t conduct business with cold callers and that I wouldn't dream of insuring non-existent items. He assured me he’d take my details off his list. Honestly, I suspect this insurance is likely useless, and it’s concerning that unsuspecting Sky customers might fall prey to this aggressive sales tactic. - Caller: Applied Digital SupportTelephone Preference ServiceApplied Digital SupportCroydonSkyTPS7 yearsI recently received a call from this number, asserting that my Sky maintenance plan had expired and they needed my card information to renew it for a hefty £107. Instinctively, I realised it was a dodgy scheme, so I decided to humour the gentleman on the other end, who introduced himself as Edward, for about a quarter of an hour. He was asking for passwords, card numbers, and expiry dates - the whole nine yards. I fed him a load of nonsense and eventually let him know that I was well aware of his little ruse. Unbelievable, isn’t it? - caller: 08443443003SkyEdward8 yearsI had a rather dodgy call from someone claiming to be “Charles”. He had an Asian accent, and when I pressed him for his actual name, he insisted that was it. Am I meant to just take him at his word? Ridiculous! He informed me I owed a one-time fee of £90 instead of £110 for Sky insurance. I told him I was already covered by a different provider, to which he replied it was impossible since my insurance had expired. He then provided a “new” contact number, 0844 3443003, and wanted me to establish a new password to confirm my identity. No way am I giving him any information! These scammers really need to be brought to heel. - Caller: “Sky Insurance Services”CharlesSkyCallerSky Insurance Services8 yearsAbsolutely abhorrent! They attempted to deceive my father, posing as someone named Mark Wilson but with a distinct foreign accent. Thankfully, my dad is quite on the ball and had this character all flustered and chasing his tail. It's truly appalling how some individuals target vulnerable folks. This sort of behaviour has to be curbed. What baffles me is how they managed to obtain my dad's number, especially since it's meant to be blocked. NEVER share your banking information, no matter what! - caller: Applied DigitalMark WilsonNEVER8 yearsI recently encountered some dodgy characters purporting to offer comprehensive technical assistance for Sky.Sky8 yearsI can relate entirely to what Mr. Sheard went through! My interaction was somewhat similar; they claimed it was regarding the renewal of my maintenance contract too. When I casually mentioned I'd pop a cheque in the post for them, they seemed rather taken aback. They provided me with their address-2 Lansdowne Road, Croydon, CR9 2ER. I expect them to be waiting indefinitely! - Caller: Applied Digital SupportSheardLansdowne RoadCroydon8 yearsMy elderly father received a call from someone claiming to be from a company concerning Sky insurance. He saw right through their ruse and informed them he would be reporting them to the police. Definitely a scam! The caller identified themselves as Applied Digital Support.Sky8 yearsI've just received a rather curious phone call from an individual pretending to be from Sky, claiming that my insurance policy has lapsed. They went on about the possibility of renewing it for a special one-off fee of £90, supposedly slashed from £118. The number they rang me from was 001632960099, but then they tossed in another contact number for ‘new customers’ - 0844 344 3003. To top it off, they requested a password to get the process underway, and when I cheekily responded with “scam artist” the caller asked me to spell it out. What a right laugh! - Caller: Sky InsuranceSkySky Insurance8 yearsI received a rather concerning call today directed at my elderly father. A woman named Zoe Taylor claimed to be from Applied Digital Support, demanding a payment of £90 for supposed Sky TV maintenance. When I asked her to send a written reminder regarding this payment, she bluntly refused, stating that Sky TV doesn’t send out such notifications. It all seems rather dodgy to me and I can’t shake the feeling that it might be a scam.Zoe TaylorApplied Digital SupportSky TV11 yearsI received a rather dubious call from a firm purporting to be linked to my Sky TV, attempting to pressure me into purchasing insurance from them. They asked for my banking details, which I promptly refused, considering I’m already covered by a legitimate insurer. After a bit of searching, it turns out that this outfit, Applied Digital Support Ltd, is not even regulated by the FCA, making their attempt at selling insurance highly questionable, if not outright illegal. If anyone else receives a similar call from this company, I urge you to exercise caution and report them to your local trading standards office as well as the Financial Conduct Authority at 0800 111 6768.
