Phone number ☎️ 08442892553 👆 is reported as an unwanted nuisance call linked to PPI (Payment Protection Insurance) refund claims, often involving automated messages urging recipients to press numbers to pursue refunds or opt out of databases. Many callers describe the calls as irritating, potentially linked to marketing or scam operations, sometimes with foreign accents, and express concerns over their legitimacy. Despite being registered with the Telephone Preference Service (TPS), users find little relief, highlighting frustrations with ongoing cold calls. A number of reports advise caution, never pressing buttons or providing personal information, and suggest seeking advice through official consumer protection channels such as Trading Standards or Consumer Direct. Calls are frequently dismissed as con attempts or misleading marketing tactics rather than genuine claim assistance.

10 yearsI reckon we were given a bit of a duff deal. We simply hung up the phone.10 yearsReceived a call from a government-affiliated firm about insurance policies related to loans and such. The voice had a distinct Asian, likely Indian or Pakistani accent, and it didn’t seem like a robot. We suspect it might be some kind of phishing attempt, but we're not completely sure what they are after. Quite dodgy, if you ask me!10 yearsReceived a call at precisely 6:40 PM, with a pre-recorded message warning that we might have been mis-sold a product. Just like mentioned earlier, we didn't press any buttons, as we were apprehensive about getting scammed.10 yearsReceived a call from this number claiming we might be eligible for some sort of financial compensation following the sale of a loan or similar. They urged us to press five and divulge our details. Quite suspicious, if you ask me!11 yearsI received a call today, the 16th of August, at half past two from the number 08442892553. They asked me to press either five or nine if I wanted to be taken off their list. While I understand that the TPS can’t handle calls of this nature, it’s clear that action is required. Seriously, OFCOM, it’s about time you clamped down on these dodgy telemarketers!TPSOFCOM11 yearsReceived a call at precisely 6:10 PM. An automated voice chimed in: "Welcome to the PPI helpline. Our records indicate that you might be entitled to a refund." At that point, we decided to hang up.11 yearsReceived a call at approximately half past seven this evening, and there was a recorded message informing me that I might be eligible for a refund regarding the alleged mis-selling of PPI-whatever that even means. It’s blatant that this is some sort of scam.11 yearsI received an uninvited call today at precisely 14:50 (15th August 2011) featuring a pre-recorded message regarding a claim of mis-selling. Quite annoying, to say the least!12 yearsI received a call from this number at around 18:40, but as soon as I answered, it disconnected the moment the automated greeting began. When I rang it back, we were greeted with a recorded message that confessed to being part of some marketing scheme, urging us to listen through an array of messages before choosing an option to remove ourselves from their database. It seems like these bothersome calls are becoming more frequent!12 yearsAnnoying unsolicited call, just hung up. Why hasn’t the Telephone Preference Service dealt with this number?12 yearsI received a couple of calls from this number earlier today, and on both occasions, the line went dead as soon as I answered. I'm beginning to suspect it's one of those pesky marketing scams. I made sure not to press 5! As a registered member of the Telephone Preference Service, I’m left wondering how these callers are still allowed to harass us. It’s quite frustrating, really!Telephone Preference Service12 yearsOn 16th August 2011 at 13:33, I received a pre-recorded call from this number about reclaiming PPI. They prompted me to press "5" if I wished to continue or hit "9" to have our number eliminated from their directory. Naturally, we opted for nine. Curiously, there was no company name mentioned, but the number was obtained through 1471.12 yearsJust moments ago, we received a call from yet another individual concerning a product that was improperly sold to them.12 yearsMy partner received a call from this number (which we traced using 1471) and, following the instructions, pressed 9 to supposedly "delete my details from their database". I can’t shake the feeling that we might be caught up in a scam operation. We intend to report this number to trading standards. So much for being listed with the Telephone Preference Service!Telephone Preference Service12 yearsHad a call this afternoon around half past two. It was an automated message claiming to be from the DTI-do they still use that name? The recording mentioned something about possibly being mis-sold loans, or similar. I was prompted to hit five for further information or nine if I wanted to remove my details from their list. I decided against both options, as I couldn't be sure I wouldn’t end up connected to one of those dodgy premium rate scams.DTI13 yearsCalled us at 18:15 with some nonsense about being misled over a purchase or something of the sort. To be honest, we never did figure out the specifics, as we promptly hung up on her. I doubt it was a recorded call, since we pressed the hands-free button right after and got the dialling tone. And as for the Telephone Preference Service? Utterly useless, like a chocolate kettle!15 yearsReceived a call from this number but decided to let it slide until I could look into it further. There was a mention of "what is PPI?" by Davina. PPI stands for Payment Protection Insurance, often known as peace of mind insurance. It primarily provides a safety net against redundancy and various forms of unemployment. Unfortunately, a significant number of these policies were mis-sold and have a track record of not honouring legitimate claims. I’m a bit lost on where to start with this. It's definitely a hot topic lately since the regulatory bodies have instructed banks and similar institutions to address outstanding claims. Personally, I think that cold-callers and those flashy ads in the tabloids are not the best places to seek reliable information. If you suspect you have a valid claim, maybe reach out to Consumer Direct? It would be brilliant if someone could shed more light on this for us.DavinaPPIPayment Protection InsuranceConsumer DirectSubmit Your Own Report (0844 289 2553)
