We reckon this is a complete scam. The message was badly phrased and clumsily put together, which makes it an odd way to inform folks about a late payment. We received a text on our office phone today, which is peculiar as it’s a message we've never encountered before related to Barclays (and I can't seem to recall the number either, so I can't pass it on!). Like many of you, I had a look at our online account and confirmed that there's absolutely nothing overdue on our end. This suggests it could either be complete nonsense, or perhaps Barclays' systems are a bit wonky, resulting in them reaching out to both customers and non-customers, overdue accounts and those in good standing alike. While that does seem rather far-fetched, I think we can all agree on one thing: don’t ring that number!

Today, we received a text message that looked remarkably similar to one we've seen before. Since we don't possess a Barclaycard, it’s clear that this has to be a scam.

We've received a message that is exactly the same and our Barclaycard account has fallen behind. We took a look through our online account because there's no way we'd ring an 0844 number after getting such a message. It's clearly a complete scam, and we'll be lodging a formal complaint with Barclays. Notably, we never received the previous statement, and we used to get complimentary reminders via email, but none of those have arrived this time. It really feels like this is just a legal means for Barclays to take advantage of its customers.

I've just received the same message as Steve, essentially instructing us to settle a recorded payment to supposedly update an overdue account and protect our credit score. The thing is, we’ve never had a Barclaycard, haven't ever banked with Barclays, and certainly haven't rated them at all. It's all rather baffling!

I've received a similar message as well. It makes one ponder-might it be authentic? We genuinely think we could have overlooked a payment, but it's all a bit unclear. Concerned, we reached out to Barclaycard, and they promptly directed us to their fraud team. It turns out, according to them, this was nothing but a scam.

We settled our account completely on 11th February 2009, yet it seems they've been slapping on extra charges for interest for more than a year without any justification. After they ignored our request for a final payment amount, we came up with a figure that we discussed and concurred with a manager at Barclaycard. We then made that payment in full. To be honest, Barclaycard is utterly dreadful.
