08439801281 Summary (Read all comments)

Phone number ☎️ 08439801281 👆 is reported as a persistent scam call typically involving automated messages offering bogus bank refunds or compensation claims, often referencing bank charges or delayed flights. Despite many recipients being registered with the Telephone Preference Service (TPS), the calls continue unabated, suggesting the organisers ignore regulations. Callers posing as a "Consumer Advice Centre" encourage pressing numbers to speak to an advisor, potentially exposing personal banking details to fraudsters or leading to premium-rate charges. The calls cause widespread annoyance, particularly affecting elderly and vulnerable individuals. Many users recommend ignoring or blocking the number, reporting it to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and Action Fraud, and using call-blocking devices or services to prevent future nuisance. Authorities are urged to take stronger action to combat this ongoing harassment.

Proper annoyed. Got a robocall from some bank refund scam on this number. I hit the 'talk to an agent' button so I could moan about it. The call centre reckons I gave permission by choosing 'talk to'. When I started complaining, she just hung up on me.

Just like loads of others, we got quite a few messages from 08439801281. We ran it through WHO CALLED ME and found out we’re not the only ones. Would be good to know if there’s anything that can be done about this.

Got a voicemail about getting bank fees back, sounded like one of those dodgy scams. They kept saying I could get refunds for some charges but didn’t give much detail. I didn’t bother calling back - sounded fishy to me. Wouldn’t trust those recorded messages claiming you can just reclaim bank fees like that. Be careful!

Got a voicemail saying I’m entitled to compensation because of a flight delay. They also said if you hit 9, they’ll take your number off their list. Bit suspicious if you ask me.

I’ve reported them to the ICO and also contacted my bank to get the fee refunded. I’m really worried they might trick others into handing over their bank info.

I picked up the call and got an automated voice about getting back bank fees. I hit 5 to chat with someone as I've never been charged anything by my bank and have been on the TPS list for more than a decade. The woman said she was calling from the Consumer Advice Centre in Swansea and explained they buy contact info, but supposedly all numbers on the TPS should have been taken off. Guess clearly they haven’t been.

Got an automated call from 08439801281 claiming there’s a bank overcharge refund. I signed up to the TPS ages ago but still get endless scam calls and PPI nonsense. Feels like if they’re not copying our cards, they’re just trying to nick our cash over the phone. It’s like being under siege all the time. The only way to deal with it is to give them some proper mouthfuls when they call.

I've just come across this number linked to a firm named "Moneyhelp Marketing", which operates out of Sale in Cheshire. If you give their website a quick search, you’ll find their contact number - 0333 002 0139. They've recently been at it again with those pesky nuisance calls, claiming to alert you about potential refunds for delayed flights. Quite the coincidence given the recent goings-on with Ryanair! I'll be lodging a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office as well as with TPS, though I doubt it will lead to much action.

I recently received a pre-recorded message from a firm named "Moneyhelp Marketing." A quick search reveals they're a marketing outfit hailing from Sale in Cheshire. It appears the message is trying to promote a rather dubious scheme related to making claims for delayed flights. Got the exact same recorded message about bank fees. Me and my wife never get charged by the bank. I’ve got an idea but no clue how to make it happen. If BT could add a feature to the 1471 call back, like pressing # after the caller’s number to block them, then they could collect info on these calls and either block them for good or use the evidence to take legal action.

Just like others have said, I don’t answer if I don’t know the number. Still, I end up with a couple of pest calls each day - usually one shows as private, another as no number, and one displays the number like this one did. We’re ex-directory and on the TPS, but honestly, it doesn’t make a difference. I reckon the law should stop cold callers from hiding their numbers. That way, we’d actually be able to report them properly to the ICO or whatever consumer watchdog is meant to deal with this stuff.

Got a recorded message saying "You’re owed a refund from your bank" and to press 3 if I wanted it or 5 if I’d already claimed it. I pressed a button and it sounded like I was making the call myself. An American bloke then said I was on hold and they appreciated my call. Felt fishy, like a sneaky way to charge you without telling you. The company goes by Money Help Marketing and specialises in buying and selling lists of phone numbers, then cold calling folks for their clients. At the moment, they’re pushing services related to bank refunds and flight delay compensation, but they don’t really seem to check if the person they’re ringing has even flown or has a bank account. 08439801281 Got the same message as loads of others, a recorded voice saying I could get a refund on my bank fees. It told me to press 5 to get the money or 9 if I'd already claimed. Definitely just another scam.

08439801281 - Heard this one before, its a scam about bank refunds, with a bloke's voice on the recorded message, based on what others said on Who Called Me.

I've just had a call from the same number myself this morning, and it’s not the first time either-had one a few weeks back as well. It all feels rather shoddy, doesn’t it? I'm also on the TPS list, but apparently they require the company's name to take any action. The big question is, how on earth am I meant to find out who these scammers are?

Got a robotic message about a refund or something. Would’ve been better if it was a real person so I could give em a piece of my mind about their dodgy scheme. :(

Got a voicemail about bank refunds, nothing to do with PPI. I saved the number from 1471, had a similar call yesterday but didn’t bother to double-check the digits.

Got a call saying "Your current bank account - Press 5 to claim your money back in 8 weeks" and "If you've already claimed press 9" - totally a scam, don’t ever press anything! The call came through at 14:13 on Thursday 13th Aug 2015, didn’t pick up and it got recorded on my BT 8500 nuisance call blocker. I got this phone about a month ago (actually bought one for my 86 year old mum first) and it was around £35, really does the job well. Just blocked that number now so it won’t bother me again!

Got a robo call about some refund for bank fees. They never said anything about PPI though. The message was like, "Press one for this, two for that." Pretty obvious they were fishing for my bank info. Plus, they had a premium rate number so calling back would've cost me a fortune. I just ended the call straight away.

This call is definitely a con. Has BT or anyone else done anything to stop these yet?

My BT8500 blocks calls from this number every time. Sounds like a dodgy scam to me.

Had a call like this today too. My partner picked up but I told him to put the phone down straight away. Something about a 'refund from the bank' was mentioned, from what I caught.

I received a rather poorly articulated voicemail regarding some supposed funds owed to me by my bank for ongoing fees I’ve been incurring. They even mentioned something quite strange about “invisible fees”! The chap on the line tripped over his words more than once on what should've been an easy script. They provided two choices: press 5 to initiate the claim process (which essentially means providing your bank details), or press 9 if you've already received your refund-though I suspect that would be a rather select group, if anyone at all!

hey, if you wanna stop these annoying calls the easiest way is to get a cpr call blocker from amazon or somewhere else. once they call you can block them instantly. honestly, it’s the best thing I’ve got, no regrets. it costs about £30-40 but def worth spending on. have a look!

Total scam. They rang me saying I had some sort of refund from my bank. How do these people even get away with it?

Received an automated message informing me of a supposed refund awaiting from my bank, urging me to press specific buttons to retrieve the funds. However, I chose to ignore it, as it was evidently a scam.

I got a rather dodgy automated call on my private number, which is also on the Telephone Preference Service list, about some so-called 'money refund from your bank in the next 8 weeks'. This happened on 12th August 2015 at around 14:55. Quite the outrageous scam, if you ask me, since we have no outstanding claims or refunds due from our bank whatsoever!

I received a rather frustrating pre-recorded message regarding claims. It was so poorly arranged that most of it got cut off while my answering machine was delivering its own spiel. They seem to have completely overlooked that I’m on the Telephone Preference Service list. Oh, and the caller didn’t even bother to state their name. How typical!

For me, it was quite a frustrating and unwelcome call. A man’s recorded voice claimed they were ringing regarding a refund from my bank or building society for fees that shouldn’t have been charged. If that were true, I’d already be aware and my bank would have contacted me directly. Since I don’t pay any fees, I knew straight away it was a dodgy call. Sadly, I’m sure some people might get tricked by it. Honestly, these sorts of calls should be outlawed entirely and those behind them brought to justice.

I missed a call from 0843 980 1281 yesterday, so I decided to block it. I reckon it’s yet another one of those pesky automated calls, much like the one I received on Wednesday from 0843 980 1205! That one is also blocked now. - Caller type: Automated system.
