It’s bonkers that a legit number just shows up as “number not recognised” right after they hang up. I’m guessing these are VOIP calls using automated diallers, just firing off calls to see if the number is active. Then they probably try to shove all kinds of spam on you. Even being on the telephone preference service doesn’t seem to stop them if they keep at it. Best bet is to block any calls from unknown numbers - if it’s someone proper, they’ll leave a message. Never give out info if they don’t call you back from a real number.

I keep getting calls from numbers like this 0843 one, and they just cut off as soon as I pick up. It's really frustrating!
