We keep getting calls from this number, but there's never anyone on the other end and they don't leave any messages. Quite puzzling!

This number has rung me up 4 times today with cold calls. What a bunch of time wasters!

Sounds like the same thing as 0843 832 0144 (last time it rang was back on 7 Nov 2013), probably some PPI scam or other annoying cold call using autodiallers. The number ending in 0144 kept ringing my phone for ages, maybe half a year, then they switched it up to a new one, no doubt getting frustrated. Best thing is to note down the time and number, then email Offcom or Offtel about it. Don’t pick up or leave any messages, otherwise they just mark you as a target, and getting annoyed just means more calls. We’ve turned off the ringer and disabled auto-answering on our line (and we've cancelled 1571). Today at 09:37, 8 Nov 2013, that new number rang again. Yesterday it was from 0141 433 6720 - they never stop pestering. Keep reporting these numbers, keep emailing, eventually they’ll get the hint and stop.

It was one of those utility checking calls. They asked me to press 5 if I wanted to chat with someone. Might have been legit, but it sounded dodgy enough that I didn’t want to risk getting hit with some huge bill. So I just hung up.
