This number (and a few others) keeps ringing almost every day, no matter what time it is. When I pick up, it’s either dead silence, recorded sales pitches, accident claim calls or straight up scammers. I’ve started to just ignore my landline when it rings now and use 1471 afterwards to check if it’s someone I know. Honestly thinking about ditching the landline altogether since I never bother answering it anymore. Proper fed up with all these annoying calls and spam!!

Here’s what I found out - the number 08437243049 is linked to a telecoms firm called Lanonyx Telecomms Limited. They’ve been around for over 20 years and seem to provide their services to various companies wanting to reach lots of people. I reckon these businesses pay per call, a few pence each, and like with any cold caller it’s all about volume. One week the calls might push PPI claims, the next week it’s debt consolidation offers, or “have you been in an accident” type of approach - solicitors probably order their system a lot. I don’t get why the DTI lets them keep going either, maybe someone more clued in can explain. If I worked there I’d certainly be investigating, given how many sites flag these call centres up. This number rang me earlier but I never bother answering. Honestly, picking up just lets them know your number’s real and then it gets passed around to every crook out there. What works for me is asking my proper mates to ring me but only let it ring for about 4 or 5 times before hanging up. Then, I use 1471 to check who called, so I only bother calling back the people I actually know. For calls that keep ringing forever, I use 1471 to get the number and then Google it to spot which dodgy pest is trying to waste my time. These kinds of calls are seriously like 95% of all my missed ones now.
