Received a call from this number, 0843 724 3147, on the 21st of May, 2015, at exactly 9:31 in the morning. I opted not to pick up since I was busy at work and let the phone ring. They didn’t leave a message. As someone employed in a call centre, where I handle both incoming and outgoing calls, I'm well aware of the regulations surrounding these kinds of communications. My suggestion would be to answer the call, and courteously request that they take your number off their automated calling list, warning them that failure to comply may result in a complaint to Ofcom. Legally, they are obliged to remove your number, though this can take up to a day. So, if their autodialler happens to dial you again during this waiting period, brace yourself for another round of calls.

I picked up the phone only to be met with a cacophony of static and indistinguishable chatter. So, I thought it prudent to ring them back on my office line. Turns out, it’s some nondescript firm fishing for details about compensation related to flight delays. Funny thing is, I haven't faced any delayed flights myself! When you return their call, you’re greeted with the option to either leave your personal information or hit 5 to arrange for one of their agents to ring you back. Oddly enough, they never disclose the name of the company throughout the whole ordeal. Best to steer clear of this lot! Hello JL, I've taken the liberty of creating a new contact in my phone titled “scammers”, and whenever one of those dodgy numbers pops up, I add it straightaway. Every now and then, I unblock it just to reblock it again immediately. Another suggestion would be to head over to the app store and grab the Tellows app. It’s quite nifty as it helps identify some of those scam calls and can automatically block them for you. Granted, I still receive a fair number of these pesky calls, but it's significantly reduced-typically just a handful each week and often grouped together. I simply block those numbers, and voilà, I enjoy a bit of tranquillity for a few days!
