There’s a firm out there that offers extended warranties for household appliances: http://www.homeapplianceguard.co.uk They use call centres abroad to conduct surveys, then use the answers to pitch their products - I found this out because one of their callers admitted it, and the info I gave during the "survey" matched the sales pitch I got afterwards! It's pretty obvious they're trying to dodge UK rules on phone marketing. I’ve reported them to the Telephone Preference Service and I’m now waiting to see if anything comes of it.

Got a ring from someone called Luke, looking for me or my missus. He said our Hotpoint washer's warranty was about to end. The thing is, we dont even own one! I just received a call that seemed to be automated, with a recorded message telling me to ring back. Definitely feels like a scam to me. If you do ring them back, it costs an absurd amount per minute - something around a quid each minute. Make sure you watch out for these dodgy scams!
