got a message asking if i approved a santander online payment of £4,180.00, it told me to reply y for yes or ring 08432897098. i rang the number, and a woman answered really professionally, claiming to be from santander’s fraud department. when i told her i don’t even have an account with santander, she tried to say she could check any accounts linked to me. that’s when i just hung up. honestly, don’t bother calling back or replying to these texts, it’s dodgy as hell.

There’s a bunch of variations going about - some use recorded messages telling you to press 1, while others have folks who sound proper professional saying you made a £600 payment. But whatever the style, the goal’s always the same: to steal your personal details and your cash.
