They're just tryin to keep you on the line as long as they can so they can charge you like 6p a minute or something. It’s a total scam, they make loads of calls and rack up the bill on your phone. They make their money by keeping you waiting and making lots of calls from their side.

I think this might be a con? When I called a private number, I got cut off and told someone had switched it - then asked me to call a different number. Sounds like a bunch of folks are caught up in this too. This definitely needs to get blocked and dealt with pronto.

Got a call from 01753265210 telling me the number switched to 08431550400. When I tried to reply, they just put me on hold. Looks like it might be from the Slough region. Don’t bother calling it back.

I was just sitting waiting for a call about my hospital appointment when my phone rang, but the line dropped as soon as I answered. I dialled 1471 and was told the number had changed to this one. Seemed a bit dodgy, so after a minute I ended the call and looked up the reviews - turns out I wasn’t the only one suspicious about this number.

This morning my 84 year old mum got a call from 0161 416 6351. The person on the line claimed to be from her bank, saying someone had tried to take £400 out of her account. They then asked her to ring back on 0843 155 0400 to sort it out. After the call ended, she dialled 1471 to check the last number and it showed the Manchester number above. It was an automated scam with no operator ever answering. It’s awful how they prey on old people and anyone really. They deserve proper punishment for scamming the elderly and everyone else.

I got through to PFP Energy and they told me their new contact is 08431550400. After waiting on the line for about 15 minutes, I ended the call. Fingers crossed it’s legit and not some sort of scam.

I’ve been totally scammed.

I called the local Council, but they sent me to this number instead. I ended up waiting on hold for more than 45 minutes and got charged £11.72 for the call. Quite frustrating!

My partner tried ringing HSBC but ended up being passed to this number instead. She got stuck on hold for ages and eventually just gave up - I reckon she’d still be waiting now if she hadn’t hung up. Turns out it’s a scam, which we only found out when the phone bill arrived with a £7.50 fee for half an hour on hold. Really frustrating!

I tried to get through to the Austrian train company OBB customer service by ringing a number I found online. Then a recorded message said their contact number had changed to 08431550400. So I dialled that new number, but it just held me on the line. It felt a bit dodgy since the official OBB number is still listed on their site and Interrail info. When I looked up that supposed new number, turns out it’s part of a scam. Really annoyed, especially now I’ve no proper phone contact to reach OBB at all!

Tried ringing Scottish Gas earlier, was told they switched their number to 08431550400. I waited on the line for like 25 minutes trying to speak to someone. Just checked with BT and apparently that call cost me £5! Turns out that number isn’t even Scottish Gas. Watch out for this!

I never even intended to dial this number! I was trying to get in touch with a builders' merchant when I received a recorded message informing me that their number had been updated to 08431550400. Naturally, I gave it a call and ended up waiting on hold for what felt like an eternity-nine minutes, to be precise. Just a moment ago, I hopped onto the Vodafone site to review the usage on my children's lines and was absolutely gobsmacked to discover some 'out of package' charges amounting to over £6. What really irked me was finding out that it was linked to this 08431550400. It’s obviously just a dodgy number looking to rip people off. Oddly enough, it’s also not appearing in my call history! I’m certain I dialled it, though-I’ve got the number jotted down right here on my desk. I've taken the liberty of storing it in my contacts as "SCAM", so I’ll be sure to steer clear of it in the future!
