In January, I received a phone call from a chap purporting to be from Windows Technical Support, who claimed they were receiving daily error notifications about my computer and suggested it was compromised. Given that my antivirus had expired and my machine was a bit dodgy, I thought it may not be too outlandish. When I requested a number to ring them back, they provided me with 0808 189 0115, where I spoke to a Sarah Jones, who introduced herself as the Sales and Complaints Manager for Bright Star - apparently, they’re contracted by Windows for this type of work. I ended up purchasing internet security and anti-hacking software for £256.90, which I paid for online. Then, on the 5th of June, I got another call from the same company, telling me they couldn’t deliver the software and that I would be refunded that £256.90 directly to me online. This refund was processed through Western Union. To my dismay, I soon discovered the money had been taken from my account instead. I’ve learned my lesson: never conduct transactions via Western Union, as it makes it far too easy for scammers to disappear without a trace. It seems I’ve been fooled not once, but twice!

There are folks ringing up from this number, claiming to represent Microsoft. Has anyone come across this before or figured out if it's all a scam?
