It's so upsetting how these scams work!1 yearI got a call this morning following up on something I mentioned yesterday.1 yearMy mum had the same thing happen just now. She opened an email from Facebook on her iPad and suddenly a number appeared with a voice saying there was a problem. When she called the number, they convinced her to log into her laptop, took control, and pressured her into buying a ridiculous 3-year antivirus subscription. Someone messaged her claiming there was an issue and ended up conning her out of some cash.Facebook1 yearGood malware protection combined with making sure every bit of software on your device is current really helps block scam pop ups. I stick with Norton, though there are other solid anti malware options out there too. Just be careful with free antivirus tools unless you’re confident about handling them. New gadgets seem to attract a load of dodgy popups and fake sites, so the first things I do on a new device are update the OS, install and update my anti malware app. After that, I run a thorough scan to be safe. If you get calls from scam numbers, texting 7726 to report them is a good move.Norton2 yearsMy laptop suddenly got locked and the only thing showing was what seemed like genuine Microsoft branding. I clicked on it and got a call from a supposed Microsoft support team. Sadly, I trusted them and without me realising, they got full control of my computer.
