In the end, I did get my rebate back, though it took ages longer than I thought it would and they were terrible at keeping me updated. Still, getting £3240 made the wait worth it.

I got a call from a business calling themselves Greystone Consultants, but they’re not the real IT company with the same name. They say they can lower your council tax if you pay them £160 plus VAT, which comes to £192. They also claimed the valuation office would bill you £500, but that’s rubbish - the valuation office doesn’t actually charge for anything like that.

Just got a call from someone called Lauren claiming to be from Affinity, talking about some banding stuff. It seemed genuine at first, but she ended up using a fake name I give out to suspicious callers, so I instantly knew it was a con!

I got a call from a woman named Lauren claiming to be from Affinity Ltd, saying my mum was owed a refund for paying too much council tax on a place she left a few years back. Mum's 83 and aware that some houses get wrongly banded - we actually had a refund straight from the council before for that reason. Lauren made it sound like she was working for the council itself. Thankfully, mum didn’t share any bank info, and now she’s just waiting for some forms to arrive in the post, which she definitely won’t be filling out.

Spoke to my mum earlier today and somehow got her to believe she was eligible for a council tax refund. Sadly, she fell for it and handed over her card info. I told her to get her card cancelled quick, but they'd already managed to swipe £150 🤬.

My mum-in-law, who’s 83, got a call from the same number and ended up giving her bank info because they told her she was owed a council tax refund. Right after the call, she felt something was off and rang her bank to stop the transaction. A couple of days later, she received a letter from some company named Affinity Tax Consultant, based at Gemini House on Old Shoreham Road in Brighton, asking her to complete forms about her council tax. Seems like they’re preying on older folks.

Yet another sneaky phone con artist at work! This particular nuisance claims to represent the so-called "Government Valuation Agency," insisting that you’re entitled to a hefty refund on your council tax, among other things. Of course, they’ll just need your bank details to sort out the payment… Now, there is indeed an entity called the Valuation Office Agency, a legitimate government institution that assesses properties for council taxes and non-domestic rates in England and Wales. So, if you’re not savvy to the ruse, it might sound quite credible! Be cautious, folks!

Got a call from someone who said her name was Abbey, with an "i" in it. She claimed my council tax band was incorrect and that I was owed a refund. Then I spoke to a bloke called Arron Marshall, who asked me to pay £150 plus VAT and then £180. They actually took £180 off my card. I’ve contacted my bank to block the payment now. Absolute scammers! Don’t hand over any details to these lot.

I mainly use this website to look up suspicious numbers that ring me and to share alerts about possible scam calls with others. Usually, folks only leave comments here after they've searched for a strange or dodgy number that’s popped up on their phone. So it’s a bit strange to see people leaving positive feedback about companies on here. Wouldn't a site like Trustpilot make more sense for that? Feels like this place is just trying to make a quick buck off people who might not be savvy about these things.

So this number rings up saying they can sort out a council tax refund but only if you pay first. Total scam, obviously. If you're meant to get any rebate from council tax, the council sorts it for free, no catches. I've noticed some 'happy' reviews here but I reckon they're fake or from the scammers themselves. Seriously, don’t believe a word they say.

A woman called Kimberley Collin rang me up about my council tax. She told me there was an ongoing investigation nearby and mentioned that some neighbours had their bands lowered. The whole experience has been positive, and after chatting with my neighbours, I found out they did get their reductions and refunds. Affinity have really simplified the whole thing for me up to now.

Got a call the other day from someone named Cleo, who said they were with "Affinity" - not Infinity like it says here, but maybe they got mixed up on their end. I tried to look them up online but couldn’t find any website for them, which seems a bit odd. They didn’t mention anything about being connected to the council or government. I must admit, whoever was on the phone seemed pretty clued up and spoke really convincingly. When I asked for a few days to think it over, they didn’t push me or anything. Still, I’m planning to give it a wide berth.

My old uncle got a phone call and then a letter with some forms about this tax band issue! Took ages to get him to see it was a total scam. Everything they sent looked proper official, and when he phoned 0808 1687888, Kimberley Collins sounded really believable. I’m absolutely furious. These scammers managed to swindle £180 from my elderly mum, who’s 83. She never gave them any of her bank info, either. What's worse, the money was taken off her account hours before they even called her! She hardly ever leaves the house and we handle all her shopping, so I have no clue how they got her personal info. Mum’s always been careful not to share details on the phone since she doesn't use the internet. The worst part? They even knew how long she’s lived at her place. Seriously, if you get a call like this, just hang up and make a report!

Somebody rang me saying I’ve been overpaying council tax, sounded like a posh English lady. She mentioned I might get a rebate of about £4,000. I thought if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. The call came from 02038873194 and she said I could ring her back on 08081687888. She gave her name as Charlie and claimed to work for the government. I’m not bothering to call her back though.

Somebody called my 82-year-old mum pretending to be “Gemma” and got her to give a phone number to ring back. When my mum called that number, someone answered the first time, but afterwards no one picked up. She also gave them her Visa card details, which was awful. When she contacted the card company, they were absolutely no help at all. Really sickening how these scammers and the banks handle things. We’re definitely putting in an official complaint to the bank first thing tomorrow.

This morning I got a call from this number telling me I was in the wrong council tax band and that I owed £150 plus VAT. They wanted me to pay by debit or credit card but said the card number was just for a reference, which sounded dodgy. I refused to give any bank details over the phone. They said they’d post me some paperwork instead. I reported it to the Police who confirmed it’s a SCAM. They connected me with the National Fraud Agency who are looking into it now.
