I said we’re a s#### clinic and the first appointment’s half price, asked if he and his partner want to pick a day. Told him we’ve got a special deal, £250 for the first session, guaranteed to light up your life again. He just hung up! Keep messing with these lot, they get a bit confused. You could even hand the phone to a toddler and let them handle it, ha!

Got a call on my work phone from a guy with an Indian accent pushing some deals for XLN. He wouldn’t stop banging on about how great the offers were and said he needed to check my bank and direct debit info. Then he passed me to a woman on a mobile, but the line was so bad I could barely hear her - bit ironic for a telecom company! Honestly, this smells like a scam, so be careful and don’t give them your details. They pretend to be XLN and seem willing to say whatever to get you to sign up.

Got a call today, fifth one this week. The bloke said his name was Sean Wilson but sounded like he was from somewhere in Asia. Claimed he was ringing from Virgin about issues with my internet. I asked for my name, address and account number to check. He had my address but got the name wrong and gave some weird VP number. When I asked how long I’d been with Virgin, he couldn’t answer and then switched to saying he was from Sky’s tech crew, then BT’s. Told him to pick one and ring back when he’s made up his mind! Proper scammers, honestly.

The calls seem to come from somewhere local in my part of England. When I ring the number back (which changes every time) it’s a private home and the person living there is obviously really annoyed since they keep getting calls from folks like me who realise it’s a spoof. This lady ringing me was an Asian woman claiming she was with BT Openreach, saying there was an issue with my internet. I told her I use Sky broadband and she replied “I know but Openreach do the final link to the customer.” I said “Yes, I work for Openreach and we never contact customers, that’s the ISP’s job.” After that, she just ended the call. Seeing how many people these scammers have bothered before makes me wonder, what’s the point of Ofcom and the Telephone Preference Service if these dodgy calls keep going on with no consequences?

A chap claiming to be David Martin from BT rang me up, claiming he needed to access my computer to fix some ‘errors’. I entertained him for a good five minutes, spinning a wild tale of nonsense just to see how far he'd go. Eventually, he blurted out that BT would dispatch an engineer to my place pronto to sort everything out. Got a bit of a cheeky call from a woman who first asked if she’d got through to the right number, then quickly checked if I was the business owner.
