Got calls at strange times from someone saying they’re British Gas, trying to set up a service. They often just hang up as soon as you pick up. They wanna get your address too. Tried to verify the number using British Gas’s chat support, but they said they don’t have a list of official numbers and the only way to check is to ring the number back! I didn’t pick up the call earlier, they dropped a voicemail but it was just a load of random letters that didn’t make any sense, so I ended up deleting it. If it’s something urgent, they can always call again.

That was British Gas. When I rang the number back, there was a recorded msg saying it wasn’t an emergency and they’d try to call again. Pretty sure it was about a question I had for their Homecare plan.

Got a missed call from 08009806078 on my phone. No voicemail or anything. Saw a comment down here about a possible break-in attempt. Loads of people say it’s BRITISH GAS trying to cancel appointments. If it's for real, just say you’ll ring them back. If they start being rude, just hang up. Make yourself a cuppa, then call British Gas on their official number. Could be a phishing trick. I’ve flagged this number as POTENTIALLY HARMFUL.

Could it potentially be British Gas? I’ve already had my appointment verified, so why on earth would they call me twice in the late hours? I opted not to pick up, and I’ve removed the number from my call log. I reckon I’ll need to block it as it seems to be a rather unwarranted annoyance.

It’s British Gas calling to let you know they’ve cancelled the appointment you had arranged for the next day. The voicemail left was just background noise of someone typing, no message at all. I double-checked the number by ringing back and then called the one on my Gas bill to explain that my mum had just passed away a few days ago and I’ve got a lot going on, so I wasn’t too pleased. The woman I spoke to was really understanding and got in touch with the Service Team for me, so fingers crossed they still come tomorrow.

Called them about a heating appointment about 10 days back and was told it'd be tomorrow 27th Jan. Now ive just had a call saying its been cancelled and the earliest they can do is 9th Feb. Thinking of getting another company to sort it instead of British Gas!

Got calls from British Gas Services today, three times, to cancel a service visit I have tomorrow. I’m stuck at home with a broken ankle and crutches, so missed the first couple because I just couldn’t get to the phone. Tried to ring back but all I got was a message. Finally answered the third call, they said the appointment was off. When I told them that wasn’t acceptable, they basically just said ‘too bad, we’re cancelling’. I made a right fuss and managed to keep the appointment, but honestly, who knows what mess BG will cause when they show up tomorrow.

Got a call from British Gas last night saying they were cancelling my appointment for tomorrow that I booked over 6 weeks back! Told them it’s really not on telling me the night before, especially when I’ve taken time off work as they don’t do weekend slots. They’re still insisting they’ll come tomorrow though.

This number rang me a couple of times this morning but I never pick up 0800 numbers. I decided to ring it back and got an automated message saying it was from British Gas service centre, but since it wasnt urgent they’ll get back to me later. Ive got a boiler service scheduled for tomorrow so fingers crossed they werent trying to cancel it - they’ve done that a few times before!

I've got a visit from British Gas scheduled for tomorrow, and after reading what others have shared, I'm feeling quite at ease about it. Typically, they ring you the day before to confirm you’ll be home, and then the engineer usually gives you a bell shortly before he shows up.

Had a call from some person saying they were from British Gas wanting to arrange a boiler service. Told them I was a bit tied up and would sort it out online when I had time.

Got a ring from 0800 980 6078, with loads of office chatter in the background. The caller claimed to be from British Gas but didn’t say why they were calling. When I asked who it was and explained I don’t do sales calls and that this is a business line, they got quite short and rude, insisting it wasn’t a sales call before hanging up. I’ve messaged British Gas on Twitter about it. The number doesn’t show up on their “did we call you” page. If this is a legit call, they really need to fix their website and train their staff better. Won’t be answering this number again!
