One obvious clue that it was a spam call was this awkward silence right after I picked up the phone back in early June 2025, before the person spoke. I've just been wondering after seeing all these comments, why would BT ring me on my phone when I haven't even got a contract with them? Seems fishy, probably a scam.

This is legit, from one of the four authorised BT agents called INTERACT who have been allowed to ring up and talk about BT services. There are only four firms BT lets do this, and they’re all listed on the BT website. The only details they get from BT are your name, phone number and account info.

Got a call from some bloke called Ben, saying my broadband contract was up for renewal. I’ve heard EE might be snapping up BT customers soon, so I was a bit on edge. Ben started asking if BT could do anything to improve my internet, mentioned some better deals and suggested upgrading the fibre connection all the way from the local exchange to my house. The chat felt fishy as we went on, so I decided to just cut him off and end the call.

Got a call on our landline from this number and the person said he was from Wigan about our BT contract running out. My missus told him we still had over half a year left on it and then hung up. He didn’t say anything about how long the contract actually was, just seemed like he was fishing for info.

They claimed to be from BT Verify but when I asked for proof, they just kept saying they needed my name for security checks. Honestly, sounds like a total scam to me. Watch out folks!

Got calls from this number loads of times in just a few days, probably around 10 or more, so in the end I had to block it. I rang BT and gave them the number, and they said it’s not a legit one.

Got a call from someone saying they were with BT, claiming my broadband contract had ended. They wanted me to verify my details by going over some security questions before discussing any plans. Then they just ended the call.

SCAM ALERT - Got a call from a bloke on my mobile, then later on a woman called too. They kept saying the contract finishes in 0 to 6 months but couldn’t tell me exactly when. Both got a bit annoyed when I refused to share any details. I checked with BT and they said they’d either email or text me about contract stuff and wouldn’t call me. Totally feels like a scam to me.

This number has called me a few times over the past couple of months here in the northwest. They come across really polite and convincing. Lucky for me, I was in a shop the last time and couldn’t pick up. I ended up asking my grandson about it, and he told me it’s a scam. They called again just yesterday, so they’re definitely still trying. This time, I called them out on it. Glad to see I wasn’t imagining things! Definitely going to give my mates a heads up about it too.

Got called three times from a number showing BT on the caller ID today. Every time I answered, the line just went silent. I hung up straight away, thinking it was probably a scam.

It's mad how BT have all the gear to block these scam calls right now, but still they let them through. Takes the biscuit. Shows how poor the rules are when these privatised companies don't get made to sort it. Feels like some kinda extreme capitalism plot, doesn't it?
