Twice now I've received calls from 08009235003 and just ignored them. Similar to someone else's comment, I have an EE contract for my mobile and use the Post Office for my landline (I switched from BT because their service was shocking and really pricey when I had an issue). It's a bit annoying that BT seems to have got hold of my EE contract details and tried to pitch me something I clearly refused years back. Seems like my memory is a bit sharper than theirs. Maybe I should give them a ring and remind them.

I used to work in telecoms and trust me, companies don’t run things like that at all. From my experience dealing with spam calls, what’s probably happening is some dodgy fraudsters have faked the number you see, making it look like a legitimate one. They just blast out calls to loads of random people using some kind of automated system. Because the number looks like it’s from BT, many people pick up, thinking it’s legit.

Just a quick update on my earlier post from 23/03/17 where I mentioned getting a call from this number on 21/03/17. At first, I thought it might be dodgy after speaking with BT who had no record of me joining them, and they even phoned the number themselves suspecting a scam. Turns out, that’s not the case. I found out exactly who they are, and the offer they gave is genuine. If you want, you can ring them back at 0114 321 0000. Seems like their prices beat what BT are actually offering.

just to update my comment from 23/03/17, i mentioned that on the 21/03/17 this number called me on my mobile. I spoke to BT but they had no record of me as a new customer and thought it might be a scam when they called the number back. turns out it’s not a scam after all. i found out who they are and you can even ring them back on 0114 321 0000. the deal they offer is genuine and from what i can tell it’s actually cheaper than the deals BT sell themselves.

A couple of days ago, on 21/03/17, this number rang me on my mobile. The caller seemed aware that my phone was an EE business line. They managed to persuade me to sign up for BT broadband and took some personal info. I got a bit wary and began recording the call. Later, I tried calling the number back, but like others have mentioned, it just went straight to a recorded message saying they're too busy. Today, 23/03/17, I contacted BT and they had no record of me as a new customer. They even rang the number themselves and reckon it’s a scam.

This number seems to be linked to a nasty bullying tactic by BT - British Teleco****. They’re basically pestering folks to try and snatch customers from providers they’re probably happy with, just to line their own pockets more. I’m with EE for my mobile but use Post Office for my landline and internet, and it’s clear I’ve been singled out by these BT jokers using my EE contact. First off, I’ll block the number. But not before giving them a proper earful on the phone - I keep one of those old noisy whistles handy for moments like this. Trust me, after that, they won’t dare ring back!
