Phone number ☎️ 08009178132 👆 is reported as a frequently disputed number with mixed feedback. Many confirm it is an official American Express contact for missed payments or credit account matters, often automated, and advise verifying by calling the number on the back of your card. However, numerous users warn of scam activity involving imposters spoofing or mimicking this number, attempting to extract personal or security details. Got a call claiming to be from Amex, but they never provided any proof it was genuine. Don’t share any info with them, they can’t verify their identity over the phone so it’s best to be careful.

If you’ve missed a payment on your AMEX credit card, you might get an automated call about it. I found it to be legit, not some scam.

Got a call from this number on MS Teams of all places, didn’t pick up though. Pretty sure it’s just some scam, honestly. If it was really Amex, I’m confused why they’d ring me at work since I’ve never dealt with them before. Feels dodgy to me. If you’re waiting for a call from Amex, probably best to ring them yourself instead of answering random calls like this.

I dialled the number on the back of my Amex card, and they told me to get in touch with this credit team number for matters like credit limits. Honestly, I don’t understand why anyone says this number’s risky at all?

I was a bit suspicious of this number at first and didn’t pick up, thinking it might be spam. Then I got an automated message from a bloke mentioning the last few digits of my card. Just to be sure, I rang up American Express customer support, and they told me this is definitely a real number from their Credit Department. So no worries, this number is legit!

Got a call from this number earlier today (6th April 2025). It looked a lot like other American Express numbers I’ve seen before, but something didn’t feel right, so I just hung up. Later I rang Amex myself and they told me they hadn’t tried to reach me at all - definitely a scam! I’m going to find out how to report this fake use of their number to Amex.

There’s so many scams going around now it’s a joke. It’s sad really, becuz lots of comments on here come from the scammers themselves, trying to say it’s really AMEX calling. Hardly anyone who actually gets a legit call from a company they trust bothers to comment on sites like this. And even fewer take the time to leave a strong message about it!

Got a voicemail saying it was from Amex, but I wasn’t sure so I rang the official Amex number printed on the back of my card. The customer service told me they hadn’t contacted me at all. Could be a scammer using a real Amex number to trick people? Best thing to do is always call the number on your card to be on the safe side.

Totally a scam, no doubt. I've seen a few say it’s from Amex, but no legit bank would blow up your phone two times on a Saturday and then hit you four more times on the Sunday. I went ahead and blocked the number. Also made sure to notify the police, Ofcom, TPS, and Action Fraud about it.

I’ve put this number on my block list but still get about 3 voicemails daily. It’s some recorded message claiming to be from American Express, saying I need to get in touch urgently. When I call the official customer service line, they tell me it’s not from them. Funny thing is, these calls only began after I cancelled my card since I wasn’t using it enough to justify the £30 yearly charge.

They called me over and over. Said they were AMEX and asked me to confirm a security question, which seemed odd since they were the ones calling. Then they gave me a name to verify, but it wasn’t mine, though I did know the name. When I said it wasn’t me, they asked if I knew the person. I told them that didn’t matter and just hung up.

Actually spoke to AMEX, they were calling about a late credit card payment. I sorted it on the phone and saw the payment show up right away on my app. If you want the calls to stop, just log into your AMEX online and sort the overdue amount. No need to pay by phone, they just want to check why you haven’t paid yet.

The number 0800 917 8132 is a scam linked to an American Express fraud attempt. I got a text from 62639 telling me to ring that 0800 number. I checked with American Express themselves and they said they don’t use that number at all, and advised me to block and report it. Got a robotic male voice on my voicemail, said my name but dunno who it was for or what it was about. Sounds like a scam to me, best stay clear.

I answered the call hoping to talk to someone about a missed payment. But I never got through to a real person. After a bit, all I could hear was dead silence for a long time. This has happened to me quite often. Not sure if it's a scam or not, but the number sure is pointless.

This phone number is linked to American Express. There’s a lot of fake scam alerts about real bank numbers on here because scammers want folks to block or avoid calls from true bank numbers. So it’s hard to tell if the reports are real or just tricks. If your bank or card company calls, always ring them back using the number on your statement or official documents. It’s not just tough to trust the posts on this site, it’s also super tricky to figure out if the call is legit or a fraud using the real number.

This number really belongs to Amex. Be careful tho, scammers might have faked this number just like they do with loads of bank numbers to trick people. If your bank or credit card company gets in touch, don’t just ignore it but don’t reply straight away either. Make sure you ring them back immediately using the number printed on your card.

Got a message saying I owe money to Amex, but I’m not even a customer there. Definitely a scam so don’t bother calling or replying. Better to report it to the police.

Proper rude. Kept insisting I hand over my card info and the security code. Claimed they were from Amex. Rang up Amex and they confirmed it's nothing to do with them. DEFINITELY A SCAM NUMBER.

I got an email with this number ([email protected]) said to be the ‘refund line’ after some lady from India rang me from +91 124-6106538, saying she was with Expedia about a refund I’ve been waiting 5 months for. She asked for my card info to sort the payment but they already have it saved online. I said no, then she sent me an email with this 0800 number claiming it’s the real Expedia refund line. They’ve rang me loads since. What a bunch of clowns.

This number showed up on a letter I got, so I rang Amex on 0800 917 8047, the Platinum AMEX contact, and they said it was definitely from them. I’m a bit worried about all the wrong info people are spreading on here. These websites only help if folks stick to the truth!

08009178132 belongs to AMEX. It showed up in a letter I got about some credit owed to me. I stopped using my AMEX card back in 2019, so I looked the number up online and called it, turns out it really is them.

Some lady rang claiming to be from American Express. She wanted my birth month to "confirm my identity" or something. I don't even have an AmEx card or account. When I asked what the call concerned, she said she couldn’t share details without my confirmation. I told her I was starting to think it wasn’t genuine, and she said I could ring AmEx myself to check. I said I’d do that later and then decided to look up the number here instead. Seems like it was probably a scam try, so I’m not entertaining it any further.

Just got a call from this number acting like they were from American Express, but they definitely weren’t. No idea how they got my mobile number. Such a rubbish timewaster, especially calling on a Sunday right after New Year’s. Wish they’d use their time and effort for something better.

I’m really confused by this, getting loads of calls and messages from them. Even when I gave them a wrong birth date, they seemed to know it and then just shut me out. Checked online and saw they turned down my last payment, so I’m gonna give a different number a go.

Definitely American Express. They rang me about some overdue payments and after reading these comments, I called a different number just to be sure.

For anyone suggesting it's Amex ringing about annual fees or other stuff; that’s usually done automatically, or they send a letter or email - they don’t phone for that. Even if you have an Amex card, NEVER share your details over the phone; instead, ring the number on your card yourself to check.

Total scam. They said they were from Amex, so my bank blocked the payment straight away. I don't even have an Amex card. They keep ringing every day but I’ve blocked the number. Already reported it to the ICO and Action Fraud.

Got a call from a woman saying she was from Amex - kept ringing me back but sounded dodgy. Just hang up if that happens. Amex always send a text first if there's anything wrong with your account and never call you out of the blue trying to sell something!

Had a look through the comments and I’m with you - definitely NOT Amex. Anyone saying it’s legit is probably part of some scam or trick. My advice is to never trust these calls, don’t ring back, and keep your info to yourself. When I get calls like this, cos they’re the ones ringing me first, I just act like I’m listening then ask them to wait a sec... and leave them waiting until they give up and end the call.
