My daughter got a call from this number while she was at school. The caller pretended to be from the government and said she owed money to the DWP. Since she’s only 13, it’s obvious this is some sort of scam.

Yup, 100% a DWP or PIP call, but their customer service leaves a lot to be desired! If you’re someone who struggles to follow everything but still tries to manage on your own, the DWP or PIP staff really ought to be patient and gentle when they speak to you. If they can’t handle that kind of communication, then honestly, they probably shouldn’t be in that role at all!

I thought this number was for the new PIP claims, but turns out it belongs to Wingate House, some care home in London. How come it’s listed on a government website as the "new claims line"? Bit confusing if you ask me.

Got a call from a number saying it was the PIP gov claim line. Sounded a bit off to me, like it wasn’t legit. Just wanted to warn others to be careful with calls like this.

That's actually the number for the Department for Work and Pensions' Personal Independence Payment claims, so it isn't a dodgy call. If you're not sure, just look up 0800 917 2222 on Google and you'll find info about it. Sometimes they call about a claim you might have submitted for PIP, or maybe they've just dialled your number by mistake.

Be careful this might be a scammer faking the number. If you're unsure, ring the DWP on the official number you're familiar with, but only after making sure your phone line is free first.

That number’s actually from the DWP for the personal independence payment applications. Not sure who this silly person reckons it might be.
