I’m pretty sure the number’s alright, it’s just that the scammer passed it on to someone else or sold it maybe?

I just received a rather alarming notification urging me to ring this number, claiming my laptop has been compromised by a virus. Apparently, it could get into my Facebook, not to mention my webcam! I promptly powered down my laptop, and upon restarting it, thankfully the message has disappeared. Do you think this has caused any harm to my device? - Caller: 08008021396

A warning suddenly popped up on my laptop saying I had a serious virus with a trojan and worm. I did the usual - took out the battery and switched it off. After waiting around 15 minutes, I switched it back on, but the message appeared again. I called the number on screen thinking it was Microsoft, but later realised it wasn't. My wife gave me a bit of stick saying she thought I’d be cleverer than that, guess I’m just getting old. Anyway, after I ended the call, I restarted the laptop again and the warning was gone. Best to try every other way to fix it before ringing anyone.

this number (0800 802 1396) showed up on dodgy sites pretending to be some tech support after a fake security warning. these scammers from india should be locked up, but if you’re careful, playing along can be a bit amusing. just don’t take risks, but it’s a decent way to waste some time. - caller was from an indian call centre scammer (once again)

My computer started acting up and the only way to stop it was to turn it off completely.

Yet another dodgy call from Indian tech support, I see. This number (0800 802 1396) keeps cropping up on fraudulent websites pretending to offer help regarding supposed security warnings. It's a right shame these scammers haven't been locked away where they belong. However, if you’ve got some spare time, you might as well have a bit of fun with them-just do stay vigilant and tread carefully! It can be a right laugh to lead them on a bit. - Caller: Indian call centre fraudsters (again)

Got a call from some so-called Indian tech support claiming my computer was riddled with viruses. Total scam, tried to get me to pay for useless "repairs". Definitely dodgy, watch out!

I encountered a rather annoying pop-up that insisted I ring +44 800 802 1396, which seemed like an obvious scam to me. I quickly accessed the task manager to close the pesky pop-up and proceeded to carry out a comprehensive virus scan. Fortunately, everything came back clean-no viruses detected at all. Just a heads-up about the number: +44 800 802 1396 is definitely suspect!

I received a pop-up notification indicating that the number displayed attempted to charge me £159 for a year's worth of coverage. I informed him that I was unable to afford it, but I regretfully allowed him to take control of my computer. He went on to claim there was a virus and that the server was supposedly traced back to Liverpool. Upon insisting I wouldn’t pay, I ended the call. Shortly thereafter, my internet connection went down, prompting me to call back. The chap identified himself as Martin Manchel, and his accent seemed to suggest he might be Indian or Pakistani. When I mentioned involving the authorities, he nonchalantly replied that I could contact the King or Queen for all he cared. Now, I'm left worried about potential harm to my laptop after granting him access. Has anyone experienced something similar or have any advice? - Caller: Martin Manchel
