I’m pretty sure the number’s alright, it’s just that the scammer passed it on to someone else or sold it maybe?

So I got this weird message popping up sayin my laptop got a virus and that I needed to ring this number or else it could get into my Facebook and even my webcam. Was pretty freaked out, but I just switched off my laptop and when I turned it on again, the message was gone. Do you think this could have done any harm to my laptop? - caller: 08008021396

A warning suddenly popped up on my laptop saying I had a serious virus with a trojan and worm. I did the usual - took out the battery and switched it off. After waiting around 15 minutes, I switched it back on, but the message appeared again. I called the number on screen thinking it was Microsoft, but later realised it wasn't. My wife gave me a bit of stick saying she thought I’d be cleverer than that, guess I’m just getting old. Anyway, after I ended the call, I restarted the laptop again and the warning was gone. Best to try every other way to fix it before ringing anyone.

this number (0800 802 1396) showed up on dodgy sites pretending to be some tech support after a fake security warning. these scammers from india should be locked up, but if you’re careful, playing along can be a bit amusing. just don’t take risks, but it’s a decent way to waste some time. - caller was from an indian call centre scammer (once again)

Got a call from an Indian tech support scam today. The number 0800 802 1396 keeps popping up on dodgy sites pretending to be a genuine support line after a supposed security warning. These scammers really ought to be locked up, but if you’re careful, it’s harmless enough to mess with them a bit. Actually, it’s quite a laugh if you’ve got some spare time... - caller: Indian telemarketer scammers once more

Got a call from some so-called Indian tech support claiming my computer was riddled with viruses. Total scam, tried to get me to pay for useless "repairs". Definitely dodgy, watch out!

Received a call from 0800-802-1396 claiming it was Microsoft saying my computer had a virus. They tried to convince me to pay for some kind of service, but it smelled off. It's definitely a scam, so watch out if you get a call like this!

I rang this number and it turned out to be a scam where they were trying to sell me some sort of antivirus software.

A dodgy pop-up popped up telling me to ring +44 800 802 1396, which looked proper dodgy and scammy to me. I quickly ended the pop-up using task manager and then did a full virus scan on my PC. Thankfully, the scan didn't pick up anything nasty. Just a heads up if you see calls from +44 800 802 1396, steer clear!

So I got this annoying pop-up telling me to ring a number above, right? This guy tried to charge me £159 for a 12-month subscription or whatever. I said I couldn’t afford that, but somehow I ended up letting him take over my PC. He went on about some virus and said the server was based in Liverpool. I told him I wasn’t paying, then just hung up. After that, my internet stopped working, so I called back. The bloke said his name was Martin Manchel, but sounded like he was from India or Pakistan. When I mentioned I’d get the police involved, he just said something like, "Contact the King or Queen, I don’t care." I really hope my laptop’s okay after all this. Does anyone know what to do next? - caller: Martin Manchel
