0800788887 Summary (Read all comments)

Phone number ☎️ 0800788887 👆 is reported as a persistent and aggressive HMRC tax scam involving calls from various numbers, including some genuine HMRC numbers that have been cloned. Callers falsely claim recipients owe large sums in unpaid tax, threaten arrest warrants, asset freezes, and criminal prosecution, often using intimidating language and fake officer names with badge numbers. Victims are pressured to pay immediately, sometimes via vouchers or bank transfers. The scammers frequently display strong Indian accents and use background noise to simulate authority. Genuine HMRC never initiates contact with threats or demands for immediate payment by phone; they communicate primarily by letter. Callers often give bogus references and refuse to provide verifiable contact details. Victims are urged not to share personal information, to hang up, block these numbers, and report incidents to Action Fraud and the police.

When a number I don't know rings me, and I'm wondering who it is, I pick up but don’t say anything. Usually, after a second or two, the line just goes dead with a click. If I catch loads of voices or noise in the background, I just hang up straight away. If it’s something important, they’ll leave a voicemail anyway.

This number has been ringing me up quite a bit. The bloke on the line seems to know my name, but I’ve got no clue who he is. He’s called from loads of different numbers, which I’ve been noting down. Most calls come in the afternoon, but once even on a Saturday. I know the voice so I just hang up straight away, but it’s pretty unsettling. Seems like he’s cracked how to spoof the numbers or something.

SCAMMERS! They pretended to be from HMRC and told my mum she owed £2193 and had to pay immediately because there was a warrant for her arrest. She even tried to pay at the bank but they stopped her and said it was a total scam. They tell you to look up the number online, which shows a Gov Tax Evasion warning, so you think it’s real - but it’s all fake. These people are taking advantage of honest, hardworking folks, and many don’t have anyone to turn to for help. Something really needs to be done to stop this.

Mine was exactly like everyone else’s, except the first call came from someone called Christine Tamu Wilson, claiming to be from the Investigating Office at the High Court in London. That call actually came from a real mobile number, 07598355787. She gave me her badge number, the case number, and even mentioned a warrant out for my arrest. I'm really glad I found these reports. I looked up the number and it showed up on a GOV.uk site, which threw me off big time. This Jennifer Smith rang me saying there was a warrant for my arrest over some debt. The voice sounded like an Indian person calling themselves Smith, which seemed odd. Plus, the call kept cutting out because my office has awful signal, and she got all annoyed asking why I wasn’t answering properly. I lost my temper a bit, and then she started dodging my questions when I wanted more info. What a bunch of scammers - I wish I’d just told her to go away!

Someone rang me saying they were Officer Jason Harris, but their Indian accent was obvious. They tried to scare me into handing over £1950 to avoid an arrest warrant and court proceedings. They told me to stop sobbing because they were recording me, claiming it’d be used in court and ‘nobody wants to hear that’. Got a ring from this number, some bloke with an Indian accent claiming I was involved in tax evasion and fraud. When I asked for details, he just told me not to play dumb and said there was an arrest warrant out for me. No name given, just "you've been warned." I asked to talk to their supervisor, who also sounded Indian. They rang me back from a different number since the line was dodgy. Once more, they threatened arrest if I kept "acting smart." In the end, they told me to shove off and said it was all a prank call. Proper weird experience.

I got a call from 0300 200 2257 with a robotic voice telling me to press 1 or else there'd be an arrest warrant out for me. Being curious, I pressed it. Then an Indian woman with a strong accent answered, with loads of background chatter, but I couldn’t make out what she was saying. Later, she called again from 0800 788 887, asking if I was Mrs (pronouncing my maiden name wrong). I’ve been married for over a decade and have only used my married name, so I said no. She then claimed it was a mistake and hung up. I've since blocked both numbers.

About half an hour ago, I got a call from someone claiming to be HMRC about supposed tax fraud involving £1800. They warned me that if it went to court and I lost, I'd owe £22,000. The woman on the line, who sounded like she had a strong Indian accent and introduced herself as Clara Adun, first rang me from the number 03002003300. Then she passed me over to a 'manager,' but the call got disconnected. Shortly after, I got another call, this time from 0800788887. The woman kept pushing me to pay online, threatening that if I didn’t, I’d end up with a criminal record against me.

That idiot who commented on 29/4/19 has got to be part of the scam crew. I received a call from someone named Officer Stella Forster, speaking with a strong Indian accent, using the number 03002002251. She rambled nonsense for about 10 mins before ringing back on +144800788887, going on for another 10. I decided to mess around and waste her time instead, hopefully Stella sees this and knows she’s a pest. They should focus on protecting people who are actually at risk.

TOTAL SCAM... Got a call from someone claiming to be from HMRC, saying I was facing legal action for tax evasion and that there was an arrest warrant out for me. The whole thing felt very threatening and rude. The first call came from 0300 200 2244, but the connection was awful. Then they rang me again from 0800 788887. That number still answers with a recorded message about HMRC fraud. I got suspicious and asked the woman, who had an Indian accent, to give me my national insurance number. She immediately cut the call right there.

Just got a call from the number 03002002203 where a recorded message claimed to be from HMRC about tax evasion. They then connected me to someone who called himself Sam Parker, said I owed £1897 to HMRC. When I asked how to know it wasn’t a scam, he rang me back from 0800788881 and told me to google 0800788887. The first two results looked like official gov sites, but thankfully I found this website third in the search which said 0800788887 was a scam number. Definitely a con, make sure to report this at https://www[.]actionfraud[.]police[.]uk/.

I just got a call from someone pretending to be from HMRC, demanding £896. When I asked for their phone number, they wouldn’t give it. Then I requested to speak to their manager, but apparently there isn’t one. They ended up swearing at me, what a joke!

Some stranger called me, kept saying my name over and over, then suddenly started saying he loved me and claimed he was my boyfriend. I tried to keep the call going but then he just hung up!

Got a call from some dodgy bloke who rang us on a different phone before. He claimed we owed £1863 but couldn’t give any proper details like a NI number. The guy sounded Indian and kept ringing back non stop, even after we told him we knew it was a scam. Finally, he hung up when we threatened to get the police involved.

I’m telling you, these people are total scammers, probably from somewhere like India or Pakistan. Can’t trust them at all.

Got a call today from someone claiming I owed £1,798 dating back to the 2016/2017 tax year. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, they started getting really rude and told me to "shut up and listen." Definitely looks like an HMRC scam. They used two different numbers: 0300 203 6805 and 0800 788887. Do yourself a favour and just block these numbers - don’t pick up!

This number kept ringing me non stop, threatening to arrest me if I didn't pay up right away. They told me to pay online or else. It felt like pure harassment and a scam to me. Someone should really do something about these fraudsters.

Got a call from someone pretending to be HMRC, telling me to buy vouchers to settle some supposed debt. When I handed the phone over to the police, they refused to hang up and kept insisting I was contacting the wrong police station!

Today I got a ring from 03002003081 claiming to be HMRC. I told them to ring back later cos I was suspicious it was dodgy. Thought it was a scam straight away. Later, the number 080078887 called me but I didn’t pick up. Bloody scammers! I’ve already reported both to my mobile provider.

They said they were from HMRC trying to sort out my taxes, but it was clearly a scam. I gave them a proper telling off, and then they started shouting abuse at me, calling me all sorts of names. Sorted now, I just blocked them.
