This afternoon, I received a call on my mobile from an unknown number which I chose to ignore. It had the unmistakable feel of a scam call. I've since blocked it from my phone. I generally refrain from picking up calls unless I'm aware of who's on the other end.

He was quite polite and asked how I was doing. Then he claimed he was from Aviva and wanted to discuss an accident I'd supposedly had. I haven't had any accident. So I just moved the phone away and let him ramble for a bit - that's at least 30 seconds he's not bothering anyone else.

Some scammer pretending to be from a claim company called, and when I told the woman I wasn’t making any claim, she just huffed and sounded really annoyed!

I answered the call and they said they were connected with outside insurance firms trying to assist me with a claim about something that happened last year. They wouldn't share any details about the incident, no date or place. Then they asked for my car registration. When I pressed for more info, all they said was "somebody hit your car and their insurance is with AVIVA?" Felt like they just made it up on the spot - number was hidden too.
