7 yearsMy dad, who’s quite old and not feeling great, saw a pop-up on his laptop saying there was a virus and he had to ring a number. When he called, someone pretending to be from Microsoft told him he had to pay £500 to fix his computer. Sadly, my dad gave them his card info. They ended up charging him £2000 in total. This is definitely a scam - please don’t ring that number!Microsoft8 yearsI found myself on what I presumed to be the official McAfee website, attempting to sign up for their antivirus software. Then, a bloke named Alvin reached out, insisting I visit www.fastassist.com. He suggested my computer was riddled with issues and proceeded to push various subscription options for a so-called anti-hacking programme, ranging from one year to a lifetime plan. This whole situation absolutely reeks of a scam!McAfeeAlvin8 yearsGot a call from 10 6520158 about setting up McAfee antivirus, this bloke named Alvin rang me saying he was from McAfee. He asked me to go on [#] fastassist{###] to help install the software. He kept saying my PC was full of issues and then pushed this dodgy annual or lifetime anti-hacking software on me. Totally felt like a scam, don’t trust it.AlvinMcAfee8 yearsBeware of these con artists! They tried to extort £200 from me after gaining access to my computer during a Norton Security installation on my new laptop. Stay clear of them! Disconnect immediately and make sure to report any such incidents. I've come across reports indicating they're also pulling similar stunts on Microsoft and McAfee users. Stay safe!NortonMicrosoftMcAfee8 yearsI just set up my new laptop and, whilst I was installing Norton Security, I received a call claiming to be from Norton. They insisted that my laptop had been compromised and demanded £200 to remedy the supposed infection. I took it upon myself to contact Norton directly mid-call, only to discover it was all a ruse. I hung up, and Norton finished the setup without a hitch. I've since reported the incident to Norton, my bank, and the fraud squad. It appears these scammers are quite prevalent at the moment!Norton8 yearsI tried to install Norton security on my new laptop but got an error message right away. Then, suddenly, I got a phone call demanding £200 to sort it out. I called Norton directly during the call and they confirmed it was a scam, so I just hung up. Eventually, Norton finished installing fine. It's crazy how these scammers manage to pose as a legit security firm.Norton9 yearswhile i was trying to set up norton, this bloke named alvin white rang me up claiming he was from norton support. he ended up taking £100 off me. luckily i reported it as a scam and managed to get my money back.Alvin WhiteNorton9 yearsThere was this bloke named Rex who claimed to be from McAfee, which was a bit creepy given I was in the middle of setting up McAfee on my computer then!
