Got a text from what looked like Nationwide, coming from a proper number but I reckon it was spoofed, saying I’d missed a personal loan payment and to ring an 0800 number to sort it out. I called up Nationwide’s fraud team, explained what happened, and they made a note of it. They then told me to send over a screenshot to their phishing folks. Turns out, there isn’t any loan taken out under my name at all.

First my wife got a text, then I did, and finally even my dad received one, all saying that my wife’s and my Nationwide account agreement was ending and that we had to ring this certain number. It’s definitely a scam, the sender name showing as 'Nationwide' is faked. In cases like this, ALWAYS use the phone number listed on the back of your bank card or statement, never call a number given in a suspicious message.

Got a call from this number earlier today. When I picked up, it just went straight to an automated voice system. I ended the call and tried calling back, and someone claimed to be from Nationwide’s "recovery collections department." They then passed me on to a bloke who immediately asked for my account details. Got a robotic call from this number on my landline, then it rang on my mobile after I cut it off. Checked with Nationwide, both my local branch and their main office, but no one knew anything about this number. Might be genuine, but I'd be careful and think it’s probably some kind of scam. Best thing to do is just ignore the call and ring your bank directly.
