Right, so this seemed like a classic scam to me. While browsing online, I suddenly got a warning flashing up alongside a constant beeping sound. The alert claimed to be from my network provider, which is BT, but I’ve seen others here mention different companies - maybe it picks the ISP based on your connection somehow? Anyway, I couldn’t get rid of the message at all, not through Internet Explorer or even the Task Manager. Killing off iexplorer processes did nothing as they just reappeared. Eventually, I had to force shut the PC down. When I powered back up, the first thing I did was update my antivirus, run a full scan, clear all my browsing history and temp files, and I also ran CCleaner to tidy up any leftover junk. Fingers crossed that sorts things out - I’d definitely recommend taking similar steps if this happens to you.

My laptop just went crazy - the screen went completely black and there was this loud beeping sound that wouldn’t stop. Tried turning it off and on again, like five times, but the noise and black screen kept coming back. Now I’m stuck using my old laptop because this one’s totally unusable.

Saw a pop-up on my laptop claiming to be Virgin Media, saying my IP address was hacked and personal info at risk. It warned me not to turn off my computer and to call 08005202022 straight away. Luckily, I looked up that number here first and dodged a scam.

It's absolutely infuriating that individuals utilizing these numbers seem to think it's acceptable to invade others' personal space. They really are a nuisance! I can't wrap my head around why they are permitted to harass people without consequence. It really needs to be addressed!

My computer suddenly popped up an alert claiming it was from Virgin or one of their partners, telling me to ring a certain number straight away. I ended up chatting with a bloke who had a very strong Indian accent, saying my computer had a major virus problem but he could sort it out no worries. He started showing me a bunch of files, all gibberish to me, claiming they were faulty. Then he mentioned he needed to get a supervisor because my PC was supposedly badly infected. While he was gone, I felt something fishy was going on. I asked him if he was really from Virgin or Microprose, and he said they were working for them. He said it’d take a couple of hours to fix and began to mention fees... but I told him I’d check with Microprose first to see if it was legit, then the call just dropped.

My screen went completely black and there was this awful, high-pitched noise blasting from the speaker. I ended up calling this number, and without much thought, I let the guy on the phone - an Indian chap named Jay who spoke very clearly - take control of my computer remotely. He ran loads of checks, and even though I kept asking if it was free, he kept telling me it was part of some BT deal for new PCs. This went on forever until he hit me with the news that my system supposedly had over 1200 viruses and that my network was compromised too. Then came the catch: if I paid £149, he’d “fix” everything for a year, or more than £200 for three years support. That’s when I told him to jog on. Honestly, if something like this happens to you, I’d recommend just getting a local expert to have a look instead.

Today at around half past nine, my computer suddenly displayed a message warning that my security was compromised, mentioning things like my bank account and email, and insisted I ring a BT security number straight away. I didn’t ring, instead I googled the number to see if it was legit. This was the first time it’s happened, and I’ve got BT broadband. The page wouldn’t close and my computer made this horrible beeping noise that wouldn’t stop, so I had no choice but to turn it off completely.

They said because I’m with Virgin Media I should ring 08005202022. I phoned Virgin Media on their normal number and they told me to just ignore that number and not to answer it. Just a heads up for everyone!
