I got a call for me partner’s nan about paying £150 for some kind of drainage insurance. She’s 83 now and has fallen for scams before, but thankfully this time she didn’t hand over any money.

Got a call from some drainage firm called BAM saying they’d been handling our drains for the past two years and wanted £220 for insurance this year. Thing is, I’ve never dealt with them or signed up for any drainage insurance. They wanted me to pay up without any paperwork or prior notice, which felt dodgy from the start. No way was I giving out my bank details for something I knew nothing about. Proper scam in my book. When I challenged them, the bloke just hung up on me. Definitely not how a legit company would behave.

So this drainage firm called BAM gave me a ring, claiming I owed £190 as the last instalment on some policy supposedly taken out two years back. They said it was a reduced rate since I hadn’t made any claims. Absolute nonsense. They're clearly hoping folks forget what they did, or in my case, never did at all, years ago. I told them I’d hand the phone to my son, and not surprisingly, he just slammed down the phone! BAM - total cheats targeting the elderly and those who can’t defend themselves. I’m 87 myself.

My mum got a call on her phone, thank goodness I picked up. The guy said he was from some drainage insurance firm asking for a last payment on a policy she supposedly has - which she definitely doesn’t. I told him I’m her power of attorney. Then he goes, “So you can just pay from her bank account, right?” I said no way. He then wanted to talk to my mum. I told him she’s in hospital, and he kept asking when he could call back. Doesn’t he get that she’s seriously unwell? Total scam, no doubt about it.

Today, I picked up a call from a polite young guy trying to sell my Dad some drainage coverage with Appliance Protect. I told him straight up that we didn’t have that and declined. As soon as I said I was going to report him to the police and Trading Standards for scamming, he just hung up. Honestly, why do these scam callers keep getting through? Someone needs to put a stop to this madness!!

Got a call from someone claiming to be my Account Manager, trying to get me to pay for a renewal on a policy that doesn’t even exist. Total scam.

Got a call from some bloke saying my drainage cover was due to finish today and they’d take a last payment on my Visa ending in something. When I asked for more info, he said I’d been covered for two years and if I didn’t pay today, it’d be cancelled. So I just told him to go ahead and cancel it, then I put the phone down.

Got a call from some drainage company saying my contract was due for renewal and that they’d be taking a final payment of £457.00 from my card ending in . for the next two years. They said after that, I could sign up for a new contract and they’d send the paperwork out once the payment was processed. I changed my phone and blocked the number, but the same one called me three times back to back, then rang twice more from a blocked number. Proper annoying!

Got a call earlier and there was nothing but quiet on the line until I said hello, then they just hung up.

This number rang me up saying I supposedly owe a full year's payment on some insurance for water pipes and stuff. The guy on the phone was pretty rude, didn’t really let me get a word in. He kept saying if I pay now, my next year’s policy would be free or something, and mentioned the policy lasts for three years. Quite frustrating!

Got a call yesterday from an 0800 number, usually I just ignore those but thought it was a bit odd since it's an inbound call. When I picked up, there was nothing at first, just silence until I said "hello." Then a recorded message played for just a couple of seconds before the call ended. From reading other comments, it looks like this is probably just another scam trying it’s luck!

Had a call from 08004702473 earlier today here in Bognor Regis. They said someone might need to come over to my place to test the air quality because there’s a chance the insulation in the loft is releasing harmful gases and might have to be changed. Since this sounds pretty serious and could even end up in legal trouble, I've asked them to send me a letter that proves who they are and backs up what they said.

got a call from someone claiming I removed a drain cover back in 2018 and that it needed renewing. i told them my husband usually handles these matters and we hadn't done any of that. then they just ended the call.

I got a call from someone named James claiming to be with ‘Salisbury Efficiency Service’ talking about loft insulation. I couldn’t find any info about this company anywhere. When I told him I don’t have a loft, he suddenly got quite harsh. To be honest, I’m not sure if he hung up on me or if I did first!

So this lot claim to be from some plumbing and drainage firm and tell me I owe £199 from a payment I made two years ago. They already have my card info but when I asked for their number, they gave me a dodgy one. Then they want my new card details. When I refused, they threatened to send a court notice. I asked them to go ahead and send it, then they just hung up on me. The number they called from is 08004702473.

Got a call from a woman claiming I owed a second instalment for some drainage service. I mentioned I’ve never signed up for any drainage cover because I rent from a housing association. She insisted it must be linked to my landlord, but I explained the landlord handles all fixes personally. Didn’t recognise the number, but it sounded like the usual scam. Just a heads up to watch out for this kind of call.
