When I asked which company she was from, she went silent. I told her I didn’t have any policy with them or any other company, since my housing association already takes care of that stuff. She just hung up. Definitely another scam, so watch out and don’t share any info. This was my third scam call today, all from different callers. Thankfully, their numbers have been shared here. He was approached by this company, and they managed to set up a direct debit without my knowledge. Thankfully, as his power of attorney, I was able to spot the letter confirming the direct debit and quickly intervened by accessing his account to cancel it. They then established a direct debit that would have drained £219 over the course of a year. Fortunately, her Power of Attorney intervened and halted the transaction, so thankfully, no funds were lost. This firm purports to provide drain insurance but has only been registered at Companies House since February 2019. It’s likely they’ll vanish and re-emerge under a different guise in a matter of months. This is not their first attempt; a similar con fell flat a year ago and will likely meet the same fate if they resurface next year under a new name. Apparently, they have a survey team in the neighbourhood tomorrow and wanted to set up a time to check our drains. They mentioned they’d tried reaching out back in June, though I can’t say that rang any bells for me. When I quizzed him on how much I’d shelled out for the policy, he mentioned it was £140, but curiously, when I pressed him for payment details, he said he couldn't access that information. He then asked me to enter my card details via my phone - a rather dodgy request if you ask me, since he couldn’t possibly see it. He mentioned they would give me a ring again, but it felt like he was trying to pull a fast one. When I thought the call had ended, I could still hear him breathing away on the other end.
