I saw Neville’s comment earlier and just wanted to add that United GMH doesn’t actually have a helpline. The number 0800456789 listed on their site is for the South African mental health group, SADAG. So if you get a call from that number in the UK, it’s probably nothing to do with them and could very well be a scam.

Reading these comments is really worrying, especially since this number is linked to United for Global Mental Health (formerly the Global Campaign for Mental Health 2018-19), which is a registered charity and company. If anyone else has been getting annoying calls from this number, maybe they should let UGMH know it’s being misused? I’d imagine they wouldn’t be the ones making calls, as it’s meant to be a helpline for mental health support. Cheers, Neville Clay

We had this bloke from India ring our firm like five times askin' for the owner. We told him we don't share names and he just goes, "Alright, I'll just keep callin' then." Luckily, our phones show the number so we started blocking him and the calls eventually stopped. One time, we picked up on speaker just to mess with him and he was singin' away! Proper persistent fella, won't take no for an answer. Wish you lot luck dealing with him.

Got a call from an Asian guy wanting to speak to the owner. I asked who was calling, he gave his name (can't recall now), said it was about my electricity and gas. I just said "I'm alright, thanks" and acted like I was about to hang up, but stayed on the line until he finally twigged I wasn't really there and ended the call (his phone bill’s on him, ha ha). Total waste of time - really fed up with these annoying calls, coming in every single day!! Anyway, blocked the number, so that should keep them at bay for a bit; until they ring from somewhere else, no doubt. Grrr!!

A bloke with an Asian accent called saying my 'utilities' meter needed replacing and wanted to arrange a visit. I asked if he meant the electric or gas meter, and he said both. I told him a smart meter had just been installed not long ago. He claimed my meters were faulty and giving incorrect readings. I asked him to send me something in writing with proof. While on the call, I was checking reviews here. I mentioned the call was being recorded and began reading some of the feedback. He ended the call straight away. Blocked the number as scam!

He’s rung a couple of times, saying he’s lonely and wants a chat. When a young person picked up, he asked if she was on her own. He even said he knew where I lived and gave the right address. I didn’t reply to any questions. You could hear what sounded like a call centre noise in the background. The last time he called - like 4 times in 5 minutes - I hung up and left the phone off the hook, then after a bit, he started singing!

This is a bit strange. Got a scammer ringing at 6pm, definitely not Asian or anything close. These silent types probably earn points from whoever they’re working for just by staying on the line, making it look like they actually dialled someone. I got a call from a bloke claiming to be from Opus Energy. He knew every detail about our business, even the account number, so at first, I thought it was legit. Then he asked for our bank info, and I told him since we pay by direct debit, he should already have what he needs. That’s when I got suspicious, googled the number, and found out it was a scam. I ended the call straight away!

Some guy with an Asian accent rang me from this number, claiming he was from the National Grid and needed my meter reading. He was pretty pushy and came across as quite rude. When I refused to give him the reading, he started yelling, so I just ended the call. Then he phoned back and was shouting about why I’d hung up on him, so I had to cut him off again.

Got a call from Scottish Power trying to pitch a deal to our driving school. I told them none of our vehicles run on gas or electric, so no thanks. Also reminded them that they’re cold calling a business number registered with TPS. After that, I just ended the call and blocked their number straight away!

If someone answers the phone with “good afternoon sir/madam,” just end the call straight away. I got a call like that a couple of minutes ago, and I didn’t even bother to talk.

Got a call on my job line from some bloke claiming I had money due. I asked him to say my name but he couldn’t manage that. Then outta nowhere he started making creepy remarks about wanting to sleep with me and told me to shut up while he was on the phone. I ended the call but the annoying git keeps ringing back!

I rang a hairdresser and ended up getting shouted at with some really horrible racist stuff and awful language. Proper upsetting.

If you’re getting loads of sales calls, I’d definitely recommend signing up with the Telephone Preference Service. It really helps cut down on those annoying calls. You can sign up at www.tpsonline.org or give them a ring on 03450700707. Just hang on for about 28 days after registering and you should notice a big drop in them. If the calls keep coming after that, you can report it to the ICO by visiting ico.org.uk or phoning 03031231113. Fingers crossed that sorts everything out! Cheers.

Got a call from someone with an Indian accent who was really pushy and quite rude, even said some offensive stuff. Honestly, if anyone can help me track them down, I’d love to settle this in person and burn off some of my spare energy!

I got a call today from this same number. The bloke was asking for my bank info and meter readings, saying my meter had a fault and I should get over £300 back. I told him to call me later and then went ahead and spoke to my energy supplier. They said they hadn't heard anything about it, so I also contacted National Grid who said they have no record of any such thing.

Got a call from someone claiming to be from the national grid wanting my meter readings. I knew straight away it was a con so I told him to jog on quite firmly and ended the call. He rang back and started getting rude, so I just had a laugh and told him to go on then. Well, I guess while he was on the phone with me, he wasn’t out there tricking anyone else!

Today this number rang me up, saying he was from National Grid and wanted my meter readings. When I asked where he was calling from, he said Birmingham. I told him I wasn’t comfortable giving meter readings over the phone, which he wasn’t happy about. I then mentioned that it’s actually illegal to try and trick people for money. After that, I hung up. Weirdly, the same bloke calls us every single day with a similar story!

Somebody pretending to be from the electric company rang me up and started calling me rubbish and told me to go away. Proper shocking behaviour. Luckily, I always record calls coming in!
