On the 4th of March at 9:43 AM, I found myself in a situation akin to Coral’s experience, detailed earlier. This caller possessed a pronounced Indian or Asian accent, purporting to represent British Gas. They spun a similar tale regarding a supposed confusion with postcodes and, when I inquired about the possibility of calling them back, they promptly provided me with the identical 0800 number. A bit of suspicion was certainly aroused! Suspecting something fishy, I took to the web to verify the numbers and stumbled upon several warnings like this one. It’s truly disheartening that in today's world, trust feels like a luxury we can hardly afford.

Caution! I received a rather alarming email from a [email protected], accompanied by a customer service number, 800-370-2954. The message ominously threatened legal action for a staggering £80,000, yet it provided only vague and ambiguous information. I have no prior transactions or connections with this company, nor do I recognise the sender. I've decided to mark that email as spam and move on.

Some bloke kept ringing me, saying he was from an energy company and wanted my info. He used a bunch of different phone numbers though, which was pretty fishy.

I’ve just received a call from 0161454622, claiming that there’s been an error with my billing postcode. They insisted that they couldn’t halt the payment which is meant to be taken via direct debit later this month. Then they asked me to verify my meter numbers. When I inquired what information they had, it turned out to be completely inaccurate. I pointed out that if the details for previous months were correct, there should be no need for me to provide new readings. He claimed they were from the meter reading service, not the billing department, which only added to my confusion. I pressed him for a contact number since it didn't make sense for them to need information that was readily available to them. He claimed to have a ‘special British Gas security password’ connected to the managing director, which amusingly turned out to be the month and year of his birth-something easily found online. To top it off, he botched my account number and seemed blissfully unaware that it was I who had set up the gas and electricity account-not the MD! Clearly, they’re not very adept at this deception business. He provided me with the number 0800 3702954 to ring back, but I was sceptical. I've already done some digging and uncovered a slew of similar reports, so I didn’t see the point in wasting my time on their nonsense. When I pressed him on the amount of my last bill, he quoted a number that was miles off. It’s downright laughable that they continue to employ these outdated tactics!

I received a call from this number claiming that there was an error with a bill linked to an incorrect postcode. They insisted that the payment through direct debit couldn't be halted and that funds were set to be withdrawn later this month. They pressed me for the meter details. Now, we’re a business, and it's quite out of the ordinary for us to settle payments via direct debit - upon realising he was feeding me false info, I pointed this out. He then mentioned BACS payment, which again is not how we operate. When I pressed him on the discrepancies, he abruptly ended the call. Quite telling, wouldn’t you say? I even asked him for our account number, and he provided one that didn't match. When I inquired about the last bill amount, his figures were way off as well. It's honestly amusing that they persist with these outdated scamming tactics!

I received a call today from a chap claiming to be Daniel from British Gas. He mentioned that we'd been incorrectly charged the Climate Levy on our bills and that they were looking to issue us a refund. He asked me to verify our account number, which he conveniently read out to me, suggesting I could find it on any of our gas or electricity statements. Daniel reassured me that he didn’t require any bank details since we pay via direct debit; apparently, my husband had already provided that information as per some bloke named Mr X. When I asked if the refund would be paid into our bank account, "Daniel" confirmed it would go into our "X" account. I told him I couldn't access our bills right then and requested to call back. He said that was fine and instructed me to contact 0800-370-2954 for Customer Services, who would then transfer me to the Climate Levy Department to sort everything out. The odd thing is we don't have an account with British Gas or the bank he mentioned, and my husband has never shared any banking information. Curiously, the number that Daniel called from displayed as 07730 405250 on my caller ID.

I received a rather dubious call today from someone who claimed to be from UK Power Networks. They were adamant about wanting me to verify my gas and electricity details. Strangely enough, they seemed to already know which providers I was with but insisted they didn't require the information I was being pressured to provide. It was a confusing back-and-forth, as they told me my energy supplier handled the gas but that UK Power Networks managed the meters. To be honest, I’m unsure if they’re legitimate. I decided to contact my actual provider, and they mentioned that these could be brokers fishing for information… quite suspicious if you ask me!
