The caller sounded like a pushy sales rep right from the start. No-one from BT would begin a call with "how's your day going?". He claimed to be calling from BT Business about my contract renewal. I told him I’d just renewed it a couple of months ago for another two years, so I knew he wasn’t legit. He insisted he was and said he’d pull up my details to prove it, claiming I only had broadband with them. That’s not true - we actually have five other services too. I told him he was lying and hung up, then blocked the number straight away.

Got a call to my work phone just before 8 in the evening, someone looking for a person who supposedly didn’t arrange our BT service. They claimed our contract was due for renewal, which it isn’t. They mentioned some extra broadband line I’m not even sure we have, using a number I don’t recognise. Then they said to either renew with a better deal or cancel, we’d have to contact our local BT business rep because they couldn’t do anything themselves. Seemed fishy enough to make me check Who Called Me. Stay clear!

Telemarketing with a twist! It seems they're finding a loophole in the regulations. Whenever you dial back those nuisance calls, it’s on you since it’s a free number - clever, eh? Turns out this particular line belongs to B.T., hawking their often overhyped and pricey offerings. A woman phoned my EE mobile claiming she was from BT, trying to offer a better deal. I told her we’d already arranged a deal with BT for this year. She mentioned my mobile number was the best way to reach me. I told her to call me on my landline instead. Never heard from her again. Feels like a scam to me!

How do I know if an 0800 call is actually from BT? At first, all 0800 numbers might look alike, but right now BT only uses nine specific 0800 numbers when reaching out to customers - they are: 0800 328 9393, 0800 028 6627, 0800 028 5085, 0800 328 9937, 0800 328 9936, 0800 328 9930, 0800 077 8968, 0800 169 1608, and 0800 923 5003. Got a call from this number earlier today, some bloke saying he was from BT wanting to sort out my broadband and BT Sport contract renewal.
